My thought on the whole Smoke issue is this:
When smoke was human, his special magical power was over smoke. Then he got turned into a cyborg. Smoke's soul is still present inside the cyborg, and somehow his soul retained his power over smoke. His body is gone, but I believe that the MKD alt costume represents his soul escaping from the cyborg. The cyborg would fall dead, and Smoke's disembodied soul attempts to form a new body all on its own, with the only tools it has available: smoke. So now his soul inhabits a body of smoke, held together by his willpower.

smoke never knew the original sub zero (now noob saibot) he made friends with his younger brother, the one in MK II. Also the older sub-zero diesnt age because he is, of course, a wraith. O he keeps his good looks and charm lol.

from what I have gathered, all fighters involved in the MK tournament do not age. The first Sub-Zero was 32 when he entered MK1 (meaning Noob would be around 33) and he knew Smoke, so did the second sub-zero. So Smoke would be 29-32 years old had he not been automated.

yea the timeline is stuffed up.. esepecial;ly when in the movie it says that the tournament is held only once a generation
