Hi Guys,
I just got my hands on the french MK: Monks demo (It still hasn't come out here in Australia, but does next week) and I have to say (for those who havn't played it) that it's absolutly fantastic. As soon as you start, you will have masterd the control interface in about 5 minutes...by the time you finish the first level of the demo you will already have down most of the fundamentals of the game. I have the X-box version of the demo and the control system is as follows:
X: Quick attack
Y: Pop Up Attack
B: Power Attack
A: Jump
Analogue Stick 1: Move
Analogue Stick 2: Camera Control
Start: Options
L: Lock On
R: Modifier
D-Pad: Fatality Input / Map
Black: Throw / Weapon Pickup
Clear: Fatality Stunner
Most of the time, you will use quick attacks I find, as the name states it's the fastest way to hit someone to start a combo, then I find I usally go into popup or finish off with a power move. The cool thing is, It's so easy to pull off special moves...all you do is hold down R and press one of the attack buttons and BANG...instant special move! Playing this game is extremly addictive and fun...I have played the Demo 5 times (Within the last 24 hours) as of this post and I beat it 4 out of those 5 times. The first time I played it (With Liu Kang) I got killed by Baraka (Boss) the thing is, during the game you kinda get cocky with your health... I was beating up all the Oni and progressing with no trouble....but when I got to Baraka I thought his damage rate would be the same...but it soooooo isn't. When you face Baraka you really need to be carefull, he will drain you health fast if you let him get to you, to many times. His blade fury does and insane amount of damage...and there is no health around (you get a little for taking out the monks on fire), so play it safe when you fight him. If you have beaten the demo before, you might want to lose to Baraka, as he does a fatality on you hehe.
I have a few tips for Baraka:
-Vary all you moves, don't do the same thing over and over agian....mix it up a little.
-Don't run in head first...play it safe, if you get hit he does lots of damage.
-Don't forget to lock on! (L) This is the best tip I can offer especially when Baraka starts to throw flaming monks and you, locking on is essensial to hitting him with the fireball or hat throw.
-When the monks land on your side of the room and start running around don't touch them, they hurt you. The best thing you can do is just before they land, lock on to them and take them out with Kung Lao's hat or Liu's fireball...it will also give you some health! Make sure you take them out quick, cause Baraka is about to jump onto your side of the room.
You don't get to play out the full Baraka boss fight, I think they give you about half of it...then it will tell you MK:SM Koming soon September 2005.
As I said earlier, this game is very addictive and fun...I can't wait till I have the full game.
Oh, forgot to mention you get 2 fatalities in this demo, 1 for each Character:
Liu Kang: d,b,u,f,X
Kung Lao: b,b,b,b,X
Well, thats it for this small review, if you havn't played the demo...I suggest you track it down and give it a shot!
