Okay, I am very very confused. How many characters are available?
Is the amount for Versus mode the same for story mode?
If that's so, does that mean that there is only 7 characters available?

There's about 8 characters available for VS. It is of course Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Scorpion, Reptile, Baraka, Sub Zero, Kitana and Johnny Cage

you would've thought that every main boss you fought would be available for VS, but thats not the case. Apparently they focused primarily on the action adventure portion of the game instead of the VS.
Although I do like the whole special attack button configuration. It carries over into the VS mode and eliminates some of the pain of trying to master and mash a series of buttons to perform a simple special attack

they should have def. put in more characters. its not like them to have under 12 players in one game cuz mk's know for its diff. characters.

Well one thing i dont get. The mk team wants to treat MKSM like a remake of MK2. Well......shouldn't they at least make the MK2 characters available for at least versus mode?

Yeah true, really they should have these fighters in the roster
Liu Kang Smoke Kung Lao Johnny Cage Reptile
Sub-Zero Shang Tsung Kitana Jade Jax
Noob Saibot Mileena Baraka Scorpion Raiden
That way, every fighter in the game (other than Kintaro) is playable

Well, that is what i thought when MKSM was in the making. I thought that all MK2 chaeacters would be playable.

Perhaps they wanted to change it up a bit for this remake. I mean they did include the original MK 2, but thats definitely not gonna be on the same level as the VS mode for Shaolin Monks. But I guess they thought, "hey, they want MK2, here it is." And then of course they through together a VS for fun.
I'm not gonna complain too much since they did a good job hammering out a game in a year. Its a bold move and hopefully they've got hundreds of workers going at this moment for MK7 and then the next Action/Adventure

I have got the game and I really don't like it. Mainly because i don't understand how to play. I just don't get it. I read and reread the manual and listened to Raiden and i just cant apply it when I fight someone. Plus, I don't have anyone to play it with, so i feel discouraged when I know there are parts and secrets i don't have access to, since i am playing alone. Also, I chose Kung Lao for Single Player mode and now I want to use Liu kang. I don't know how to exchange them. Is it even allowed? I keep getting killed and I have to replay certain parts over and over again. I cant even get past the 2nd level of the Wushi Academy. Can someone help?

Unfortunately you cannot switch characters through the game. Once you started with Kung Lao you need to play through as Kung Lao. The button mapping is really pretty decent once you get the hang of it.
In order to perform any specials you just hold the right trigger and press X, Y, B or Black using XBOX or Square, Triangle, Circle on the PS2. These allow you to do specials, like the Hat Toss, or the Teleport Jump or the Whirlwind Spin.
When not hold the right trigger you perform normal attacks, like quick attacks, ones that launch opponents into the air and power attacks. But of course you know this. So forgive me if it sounds a bit redundant.
Now where do you keep getting stuck at the Wu Shi Academy? Its a pretty confusing place for the most part with all the different paths, but unfortunately the other realms like the Living Forst or Soul Tombs are just as bad.

Well both Kung Lao and Liu Kang are crucial for the development of the game. Scorpion and Sub Zero are just thrown in there for the legions of fan boys who love them.
Besides, the story centers on both monks, so playing as Scorpion or Sub Zero is just an element of fun. But I do agree...its a bit of a pain to switch of characters, especially since I don't really think theres a difference in story events between the two.

I think you're the first person to ever mention an enjoyment and dedication to playing as Sonya. And you know exactly why Scorpion got thrown into the playable mix.
