I don't see what all the fuss is about, if you see spam all you have to do is ignore it, it's not hard people. And as for saying that we are not doing anything about it, thats just bullshit, everytime I saw spam I instantly banned the person from the forum and the website, It's true I havn't been able to be on as much as I used to with my new job, but I do come on everyday and have a quick look...everytime I have there has been no spam...most likely the spam is created when I am asleep, when Shoe sends me an e-mail to ban someone, I ban them straght away.

I really think you are over reacting people, i hate spam to...I get it everyday in my e-mail...I just delete it and ignore it, all you have to do is the same here untill it's delt with by me or Shoe.

Regards,

As usual, I've read all posts in this thread. I always save off topic for last, so you can be assured I've read through all new topics, since this is the last one of the day.

I am going to be brutally honest (not a side many people like) in the next few sentences. My honesty is what I'm noted for, and the fact that I dish it out as I see fit also is noted. I'd like to mention that anyone who doesn't want to read how I feel should skip over now...

Ready? Begin.

I find this thread depressing. Recently there has been an influx of newbies. With that sometimes a high index of spammers.

Every site that gets popular eventually gets a duality. A spamming population chomping at the bit, and a population of veterans.

It is at this critical point that one of two things will happen. What happens depend on the webmaster, and his group of moderators. In this case, TMK and myself.

I have seen many times where neither care about the veterans. In those cases spammers rule and the site eventually closes or continues depending on the cashflow and the feelings of the Webmaster.

Let us take Mortalkombatonline for example. I am old on there. VERY OLD maybe only months younger than TMK for that site in terms of veteran. I remember the first layout when you had to go to the gamers.com boards. I've been there a LONG time.

Which might not mean much to you. In the beginning the site was great. I will admit, I loved being there. Over time the site grew less appealing. There were influxes of newbies that are almost staggering from my vantage point. As the website grew more popular, the user count rose signifigantly. At some point, what I like to call 2002, spammers, newbies, and others who didn't actually care enough about the forum in my reasoning, started gaining a foothold in conversations.

As we were told, 'just ignore them' 'you were a newbie once as well'. I did acknowledge those facts. For many years. Yet problems arose. Unfair moderating. By that I mean moderating done without any reason given. A grandiose setting had taken place, there was a definite line drawn in the sand between users and moderators. As if those given power were above it all.

Sadly, I know why such things happened. Scott Howell doesn't care anymore. He is the webmaster. See, I've known on 3 seperate occasions in the last 3 years that Scott wanted to close the site. He has grown weary. He has been needed to be reminded about the anniversary date even. The beast he created is larger than he can afford or put his full attention to. I've noticed the only times he cares is when he has some game as exclusive photos or joining Midway at E3. This sickens me. If the times aren't flying high he'd rather just close the site. Now with MK promising a game every year, don't expect the site to close. No, he'd rather keep it open. Meanwhile the moderators are doing a poor to bad job on my grading scale. Nobody cares. When someone complains, they get flamed for complaining.

Now we sit, at these crossroads. This site is gaining popularity. The question that should be at the front of your mind is: So now what? TMK, myself, or anyone else, are not reaping any benifits from this site except for the excitement of Mortal Kombat and the joy of sharing a community with individuals. I've never been to E3, TMK has never been to E3. Yet the site is still open. Why? Because TMK cares. Even though it costs a good deal of money to have a site like this one with this many users, it's still open.

I have seen TMK's presence increased markedly. (Insomnia does that for an individual). Remember though, we are only human. That is why I gave the crapload of links in my sig instead of a usual signature that I would do. Because if you care enough about this community and the people therein, then you would be upset when you saw something like spam and bop me over the head to take a look. I've seen it happen only twice during the ING incident. Boring

Now maybe I'm doing a good job. I don't know, that is up to you. I admit that what powers I have are lacking, but you should know that people who care for this site will fight for it. And I'm here, and I'm fighting.

What I see when people make public replies like this saying sayonara, is "Welp, I don't actually care about this site. I just kinda hung around here until I got bored." That sickens me. To my deepest soul. People who are like that are users. I've had enough people use me in my life to last me till the end of my days.

If you truly cared, you wouldn't make a big production of "I think your site is shit, fuck all and cya later". If you truly cared you would either help, or keep on the low profile. Instead I see people looking at TMK and myself and saying "Fuck you, your horse, and the boat you rode in on."

And what do I say to them? I say that I'm sorry that you feel that way. I'm sorry that you don't love this place like I do. Yet, long after you're gone I'll still be here. Still caring, still doing the best that I can.

There's a side of me that is angry at you guys. For spitting in the face of this site. I feel like telling you all to not let the door hit you on the way out because I don't want ass prints on my door. If you ever came back though, I'd welcome you in open arms though. And that's the truth.

I welcome anyone who legitimately wants to join and help the community flourish. I welcome anyone who wants to just hang out and be friends with others. Long after you leave, I want anyone who does, to know that your spot will be preserved. You won't be forgotten in my mind. I'll be glad to see you back.

Just don't disrespect the man who has dedicated his life to this site through adversity, because of some minor growing pains. TMK deserves better than that.

-Shoe

Ok, the reason I started this thread was because everytime I came here I was just useless topics not making any sense at all. Honestly I love this site as much as I love myself Wink. It was my first forum people appreciated me in and my first forum in my life. I will always remember TotalMortalKombat as the best mk site there ever was. EVER. No one can argue with that, it has been here for over 7 years, it is thus a ledgendary site.

I truly would love to help with the site in any way. I have helped it several times by pm'ing Total-Mk. Hopefully he still remembers. I have met many many people in this forum. People that have helped me, friends, enemies, partners, people to help, etc.

I hope to one time return to tmk seeing that his forum is under control. Shoe is trying his best and I understand he has alot going on right now. In my opinion you guys should have a bigger staff that can help out more than just one person. (Don't worry shoe, I am not insulting you...) So the site can have less spam and nubs.

To reply to what Total-Mk said. I have not been posting for quite some time now. During that time I probably replied to posts rarely. Plus, I do ignore spam but there is a limit to what I can tolerate, I would hate to see this site go down and get packed with spammers. Like I said before, If you need more help I would be most glad to help you and your site and so would many others. It is up to you Total-Mk.

I would like to stay. Im not sure, its up to all of you.

I couldn't possible agree more with you there shoeunited! I love this site, but sometimes I just can't post, or just don't want to. So I keep a low profile. Even tho I hardly post, I still come around on this site and I still love this site.

So much Drama, if you leave. You say goodbye, don't bitch about spam, the mods will take care of it. You'll get it everywhere you go, mailbox, e-mail, aim, msn, forums...

I can see what you mean Shoe. This forum is the first one I have ever joined and it does mean alot to me. But as RoS said, there's only so much spamming you can take. Fair enough, e-mails dont get noticed because theres a junk filter on them, but when you go onto a forum that you genuinely care for and others are ruining the fun for you, you do be more than tempted to leave, especially when the people ruining it just seem to want Koins and not a conversation on the game.

I know it must be hard running a site like this, all the veterans are doing is trying to help. Many topics were started due to spamming to grab not only other members attention but the staff's attention too. There should be some new graves dug up in the Graveyard for the people who ruin the site for us. Dont get me wrong, it pains me even thinking of leaving, but these days the spamming is starting to build up and my interest in the topics is starting to wayne. Sad

Now, I'm not one to beat a dead horse. But God knows I derive pleasure from a stick and a deceased ungulate.

"Who's your fave?" Is the only sightings I have where your guy's classification of spam still exist. TMK and myself have deleted all spam as they arose as soon as we found it. So the only thing left in your argument is fave threads.

Thank God nobody here is a hypocrite. I'd hate for that to happen. I decided to look at all of the threads/replies our illustrious 'veterans' made way back when they started. Surprise, surprise, all of them made replies within the first 20 posts to threads they supposedly hate. It was in support of those threads. Just like a newbie, just like their classification of spammer. I've heard of the pot calling the kettle black, but I've never heard the pot call itself blue china.

For the record, I'm not in over my head. I just say that I'm not perfect and that I might miss one once in a while. It is a busy job, but if I had more people around modding then I'd have nothing to do.

I think the real problem is some of you want to become a mod. I'd feel that it'd be a slap in the face to the position I'm in. I have noticed that many of you assume I'm new here. Well, I'm not. Many assume I just came from the ashes. No, no, I've lurked quite a bit in my years. I wasn't thrown this at me willy nilly. I've hung around TMK's channel and this site for more years than he'd probably want to remember lol. And maybe my post count isn't astronomical. Not entirely surprising because I lurk a lot on many forums. I don't need to say every little thought that goes through my head, just when I feel the need. The Oldest of our 'veteran' people who are leaving is 8 months younger than I. The next closest is 1 yr. 5 months. So don't think I'm some fly by night dude.

And I sense that in some of you. All of you leavers have made many a reply to a who's your fave thread. I believe I can count how many replies I've made to those threads that didn't involve moderating on one hand. The same can't be said for you.

So, before you go off on a tangent how these newbs are wrecking the joint, remember, you were those newbs to me. And you know what I did? I kept my mouth shut, because I know eventually a newbie becomes a user.

This farce is exactly what it is. So before you complain remember: you can either be a solution, inert, or a problem. And I'm only seeing the latter in those that have disrespected the site.

-Shoe

Look, before I get categorized into the "hypocrit veteran" group, I want to point out that I understand what Shoe and Total-MK have been doing for TMK. I am not leaving this forum because of the spammers, but because most of my friends are leaving and I have other places that I would rather be. I ain't leaving for the same reason these other guys are. I know that when I first came to this site, I was a n00b and I was even warned about spamming my first week. So I know that I shouldn't leave for petty reasons such as spamming and such. I am planning to come back, but for now, I am gonna take a break from this site.

Just to set things straight......I understand the staff's point of view about us when we were newbies and how we should ignore spam. Personally, I've been thinking about this predicament and I'm not too keen on leaving, yet at the same time I would like to take a break from the forum. I can admit that I did get worked up over the spamming, I send my apologies to those I annoyed (typical of me to loose it when i'm angry Rolling Eyes ) but it is an issue that is getting at members and I can see why it bothers them.

I love TMK, its been the first site I've ever learned from where I made friends and had fun at the same time. But lately I dont find the time to visit as much as I once did, and what got to me was that every time I did get the chance to visit I saw other users spam. If needed, I will help the staff confront this issue and aid them as best I can. I dont think that I actually want to leave, I just think it would be for the better if I just took a little time off thats all. Perhaps I do sound hypocritical, but as I have said, I gave this issue alot of thought and this is how I feel about it.
