You are trying to get the mandarin translation of Lo Pan.
Which I'm going to say, No soul. _________________

I already gave the mandarin translation, it's a chinese compass. But that isn't the answer he's looking for.
Could it be Lo Pan, the god of carpenters and artisans?

He tells me that Luo Pan means Chinese Compass. _________________

Lo Pan is another name for it, probably just messed up in the translation. Look up Lo Pan Chinese Compass into google and you'll see for yourself.

Lo Pan (in Feng Shui) is anglicanized not unlike a host of other words from the east: Shitake (instead of Shiitake), Sake (often heard as sock-E), and a whole myriad of other words I won't get into.
Suffice to say the compass's true spelling and pronunciation would be Luo Pan (very soft o like loo-oh Pahn except the u is kept very unstressed like the B sound in the Spanish letter V). Similar to the I in Liu Kang. If pronounced correctly the I is very soft almost indistinguishable as lee-ew instead of Loo as I often hear it, closer to a lew. I know the Midway company decided to settle on the latter, but that doesn't make them any more correct in the pronunciation dept. when it comes to actual asian pronunciations. Much like the Raiden/Rayden controversy.
I'm indeed looking for Lo Pan. Not Luo Pan.
