Engines in games are NEVER stored in ram(nothing gets "stored" in ram it gets directed THROUGH ram..information is STORED on the DISC and then PROCESSED through a PROCESSOR....look it up..or better yet..go to class for this stuff like me:D |
What did you do, take a high school computer class? First of all, if you're taking any sort of Information Technology or CSE class in COLLEGE, or could even comprehend how any computer basically works, you'd know that NOTHING is run directly off of a disc. Hence a loading screen. This is where the console will take information off of the disc, and temporarily store it in the RAM. Then, the PROCESSOR will PROCESS information from the RAM. Does your PC run straight off of the HD? If so, you must have one slow computer. Let's take Half-Life 2 for example. Ever notice all of those annoying loading screens? Why do you think they exist? Yes, that's it, because the computer is loading information from the disc into memory.
The game engine is the core of the game. The engine is to the game as the kernel is to the operating system. It's the code that controls the game. Of course the engine is initially on the disc, the entire game is. But if you think that the engine is running off of the disk during the entire game, you're nuts. A 52x CD-ROM drive can read CD's at about 7.62 MB/sec. PC3200 DDR memory can handle 3.2 GB/sec. I think that is quite a significant difference, dont you?
By the way, anything that is coded/written is software, including the engine.
As far as emulators go, what do you think they do, guess how the game runs? No, of course not, they use the game's engine.
It's pwnd, not pwnt.

You know if you stare at the computer screen long enough, you'll look up and not be able to see anything. _________________ "...don't think it's yours just 'cause you marked it with your urine."

| thedeadknight wrote: | | You're math is off actually. The MKD for the xbox is a dual layered disc its not the 4.5(roughly) this includes higher res graphics(which take up more room respectively) and has the whole online system which also takes up an unbelievable amount of room. |
Actully, your math is off....MK:D on X-Box isn't a duel layerd game at all, here is the directory listing to prove it:
/AREA51 (378MB)
/art (920MB)
/moviexbox (1.5GB)
/sndsxbox (1.7GB)
dashupdate.xbe (55.71MB)
default.xbe (4.44MB)
update.xbe (2.22MB)
The graphics arn't higer res at all, they just arn't compressed....Gamecube uses a slight compression to get the size down.
| thedeadknight wrote: | | True the PS2 also has online but the graphics were admittedly cut down(still good just not as good) and the online system is much smaller on PS2 than XBOX(respectively). |
The graphics for the PS2 and X-Box are in the same ballpark, It's just that Sony doesn't have the power to put out sharper graphics like a X-Box / GC can, the software is still the same quality on x-box and ps2.
| thedeadknight wrote: | | The amount of room it would take to include two or three additional character models isnt' that significant. The gamecube version is even highly compressed. |
lol....the GC version Isn't highly compressed, it has the slightest compression that you can't even notice, but as far as space go, makes a differance.
| thedeadknight wrote: | | And needless to say the GC version also came otu way after the PS2 versions and XBOX versions had already been out for awhile...Midway only published thr GC version to squeeze out some money of the whining Nintendo fans. |
And the fact that Gamecube is the easiest system to develop for, and I am glad Midway listen to "whining" Nintendo fans, they diserve the game as well....after all MK2 was extremly popular on the SNES.
| thedeadknight wrote: | | Now the GC graphics are better than the PS2 version that I definetly can admit but the GC version is also highly more compressed--thus the longer load times. |
lol...is that why the Gamecube version loads FASTER than the PS2 and X-Box versions?.....

I never said the engine was stored in ram!

Great! So a GC version IS possible!
Yeah, I liked MK2 more on SNES, the graphics are much much better, and so is the voice quality. But one minor flaw is the lack of the cheats you can get on the Megadrive/Genesis version, like Test Mode and "Ooh, Nasty"... _________________ Woe to you o' earth and sea, for the devil sends the beast with wrath, for he knows the time is short, let him who have understanding reckon the number of the beast, it's number is six hundred and sixty six...

Yeah, stay on topic.
But just a quick FYI: SNES and Megadrive versions both had cheats, SNES cheats were inputed on the "choose your fighter" screen, eg "u,u,l,u,d,select (extended fatality time to 1 minute)" "d,u,r,u,l,select (hits do 6 times more damage, and do 6 times less to you)"

Hell fecking yeah it should be on yonder 'Cube. Like I'm going to give Sony money when Nintendo will do the same game infinately better? The only reason I own a PS2 is for the Soul Reaver games that didn't come out on the GCN aand the GTA series. Apart from that, the PS2 is a heap of shit. _________________

No, not really. If you want to get into hardware specs, then yeah Gamecube is a bit better. Not enough to make me buy one though. PS2 and xBox have many more games that are worth playing, and I don't notice THAT much of a difference in graphics quality between Gamecube and PS2.
