That was one of the worst non-canon additions to the movie. Jax's real arms were ripped off, so how the hell would he be able to fight without his cybernetic arms? Oh yeah, because the movie didn't follow the series.

Let's not turn this into a "MKA was so bad because..." thread. There are thousands of those on here I'm sure, and the fact it got a lower % rating on rottentomatos.com than Ultra Violet says a lot.
I don't see how the first movie turned out to be a flop. It had good action, good characters, good story, and was pretty good with maintaining the story I think. Why it apparently did so bad I don't know, but I remember everyone was so hyped about the 2nd movie (before it came out) which shows that the first one had to of had some hype to it, right? _________________

I think the reason MK1 "flopped" was because all the critiques were against anything having to do with the game since the game was one of the most controversial video games of it's time. The movie itself was a success finantially, no doubt, but that will never change the critiques minds for thinking it "warped our minds" or something.

Personally, my only problem with MK: A was that They didn't include Sektor.
I like how they kept to the game quite a bit in the first movie, How Liu Kang only killed with the Pit fatality, How Reptile was a 'Bonus' character.
If you notice, (although it is pure coincidence) one of the statues looks like Havik. and one of the diners behind Sonya (I think it was Sonya) looks like Kobra (although it's only a look at his back.)

Anyway I think there was because something always seemed to go wrong for this film. First thing I can think of is that Cameron Diaz was going to play Sonya Blade but had to pull out because she broke her wrist, Jean Claude Van Damme was offered to play Johnny Cage but went to do Street Fighter (poor choice on his behalf) and then Brandon Lee was chosen to play Cage and was killed before filming began! (the Van Damme-Lee incidents may have been other way round). What do you think? |
That's more like a blessing, I wouldn't change a thing about the first movie. _________________ Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire...

...then you're the only human alive...Cameron Diaz as well Van Damme would have at least commercialized the damn movie...maybe they would've gotten a larger budget...and perhaps I would actually have liked Cage... _________________ "...don't think it's yours just 'cause you marked it with your urine."

I beg to differ, many fans agree that those actors were the perfect choice.
| l{ombat_l{rave wrote: | | ...Cameron Diaz as well Van Damme would have at least commercialized the damn movie... |
Cameron Diaz was an unknown at the moment. And Bridgette Wilson is seen by many fans as THE Sonya Blade, but I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt on that one, maybe Diaz would have been really good as Sonya.
As for Van Damme, thank god Street Fighter kept him THE HELL AWAY from Mortal Kombat! I know Johnny Cage is actually based on him and all but... come on!
| l{ombat_l{rave wrote: | | ...maybe they would've gotten a larger budget |
Well, as I said before, Diaz was an unknown, and Van Damme has never been in any high-budget movie anyway, so I don't think it would have made a difference. _________________ Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire...
