I asked this question in my video interview, Paulo Garcia answered it for us:

"What is the real deal with scorpions spear? such as backstory, and how he really uses it. Does he throw it from his hip or out of his hand?"
Paulo's Answer: He currently throws it from his hip.

...you can tell in his costume as I had previously believed...
...the rope is wrapped around his waist and tied to the dagger-like blade and he throws it from there and it spins from his waist...but you don't have to listen to me...I was just guessing anyway...

wait thats still a little vauge werer those his excact words because Currently lives a bit open. think about it he said he currently throws it from his hip so does that mean that at some point in MK history that it came out of his hand just saying think about it.

Well, from what I knew, isnt scorpion like, uh...whats the word...well, he doesn't really have a body. on MK2, u can put in a code that makes them all naked, but scorpion is just a skeleton. so couldn't he have just stuffed the rope in his arm and the spear and just shoot it out?
or he could have a healing power like wolverine in xmen that allows him to be able to shoot it out
but really, why does it matter? its a kick @$$ move that looks cool and has a catchy phrase. Can't we all just agree on that?

lol. sorry BIGFOOT_PI, i meant mkgold. and it doesn't really make them naked. me and my sister found a combo of buttons to push at once that makes the dreamcast beep. them black squares appear and it looks like it's censoring everyone making them "look" naked. but for some reason, it makes goro look mishapen and scorpion a skeleton.
this is what happens when you're bored at 2:00 in the moring and the dreamcast wont work...

well i was looking at MK:DA and when he therw the spear it desapared from his hip. but as you can clearly see on my icon that on the movie it came from his hand. so i guess the game and movie differ some what but the point is still the same dont try to run from scorpion.

Scorpion is cool, his spear kicks @$$, and he's one of the best (or the best, i say) characters. I personally don't know how he attacks with his spear, but I'm sure nobody 'cept Sub-Zero would want to be caught in a dark alley with an angry Scorpion.

I am hoping in the new chapter of Mortal Kombat that it doesn't come out of his hand becuase thats a little rediculous. I can take fire balls, tele porting and stuff but I can't see someone hiding a cable in their arm. Especial with a large kanuia (sorry fot the horrible spelling) on the end of it.

Dude...you can take teleporting and random fire but NOT a spear. Hello??? He's a spectre, he can take the pain, and with enough force from your muscle tensing up, it is possisble to push something of that porportions out of a slit on the palm. It's making random fireballs that appear out of nowhere and with no ignition that drives me insane...
