I say no because there are more features with Kreate-A-Kombatant, like the customizing of fatalities and specific combinations. Also, designing a character isn't all that new. While there are similarities to SCIII's create a character, MK -AR's has more features by the looks of it.

Also, Mortal Kombat has had more time around and more people to grow nostalgic and excited about it. Sould Caliber hasn;t been around as long and so doesn't have an equal fan base. So, the chances of people loving creating different versions of their favorite characters and others will be a much bigger success.
