Shang Tsung was killed at the end of the first movie. I don't think they can easily bring him back. I have a feeling the third movie is going to be based on Mortal Kombat 4, unless Shang Tsung is reborn as his younger incanration.

They could bring him back... they would probably have the young Bruce Locke from MK Conquest to play him instead of the old Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. If they don't mess up the story line, they can bring him back.

Possible though they could get away with just Quan Chi if they needed to at the end of the day this film can't just be aimed at MK fans it needs to attract a wider audience

Wait I've said this before but i like it so will say it again. Shang died in the first film right! hes very very evil so could very easily be sent to neatherealm were he can meet Quan Chi and form a "deadly aliance" thats what the film should be about but i dout it.

I doubt it. Nothing else LKM says makes sense so why should this?
Anyway, since when did the films pay attention to the other one, or the games or the comics? I know it should be, but I wouldn't be suprised if they totaly balls it up again.

I agree with you, though LinKeui Man has a great follow-up to just skip MKIV all-together...
...they probably will go completely non-canon...though we can still hope...

I think the third movie will be based off the Deadly Alliance game, but will go non-canon by bringing back Shang Tsung.
I know the 3rd movie will avoid the 2nd one as far as storyline goes, but like Shinnok said in MK:2 - "There are consiquences for breaking the secred rules".
Maybe since Rayden is apparently reincarnating Johnny Cage, the consiquence could be that Quan-Chi reincarnates Shang Tsung..?

Well, they claim to be forgetting that the second movie ever happened. Additionally, they can just pull what the games pull, and bring characters back from the dead. I don't see how it would be all that difficult to grab the game storyline.

Ignoring the 2nd movie, they can do just about anything. I wouldn't mind if Devastation basically retconned the 2nd movie and was Shao Kahn's invasion, just done properly. But I'm sure a lot of people would be disappointed if that was the case (me NOT being one of those people), so doing the Deadly Alliance story could work. Then again, so could MK4's plot, even with the 2nd movie factored in there.
