I believe Shaolin Monks was made to retcon the Kang, Lao, Elder Lao, relationship. So his MK4 bio is now a "mistake" on the part of the history makers. And they can argue typographical error because, Kang if related, would have been a descendant; not an ancestor.
Retconning bothers me a lot. It's a reason why I can't watch Star Trek.

i dont think mk shoalin monks goes with the series..i look at it like an extra game like mk3u and mkt..its just unbeliveble that someone could just defeat goro without killing him..how can u fight him and walk away with him still alive..i know goro wouldnt let that happen...hmm i dunno..but isnt hard to believe goro didnt die?i guess he did just retreat into outworld during liu fighting shang tsung.

Midway has stated that it is a retcon. And if you notice, Goro didn't kill Lao. So, it is entirely possible that he saw he was bettered and went into hiding if Liu let him live.

There were a lot of things in MK-SM that went against the original game stories, hence why I'm not sure if I consider it as canon as the actual MK2 game. That's my personal opinion but if MK said it was a retcon then I guess it is. (Could you gimme a link to that please, just want to read up on it).

I try not to let it get to me. I have all of DS9 and I just watch it for the fun of the battle scenes and stuff.

In this quote I found from this site it states that Goro ruled the tourniment and it mentions his death.

That means Tsung took it away from Goro's rule.right?

Shang Tsung won the Tournament by defeating the Champions of the day. He ran the tournament after he had declared Goro as the current champion. Tsung only decided to fight afterwards only to ensure that Outworld won. Which completely contradicts the point of Bo Rai Cho. But that's a different plothole I have problems with all together.
