No, he didnt. He defeated Sektor, big difference. In Sektor's MKTE ending he is creating his own clan of cyber ninja's.

Sektor is also present in MKD in Konquest mode (in the Konquest timeline, this is long after the events of MK3, as Edenia is its own realm again) wondering around in Edenia looking for some parts to repair himself.
While Shaolin Monks did go against a lot of the previous theories (ie Goro being killed, how Sub-Zero got his scar, Kano dieing, etc.), it is a more recent game and technically replaces the events of MK2 since it's the 'updated version'. Because of this, the whole "marked for death" can be considered targeted and wanted for betraying the clan, as I said before and as Scorpion_912 said as well.
It really boils down to which you feel is more canon, MK3 or MK Shaolin Monks. If there weren't so many flaws with Shaolin Monks I'd completly defend it. But there are a lot of things wrong with it that make it's canonical story less believable. By the same token however, the 'marked for death' has an alternative explanation which I stated above.

never trust wikipedia, its good only if you get other sources to confirm it, but if you dont confirm it, you cant trust it.

here's how i think sub zero got the scar, scorpion saw sub zero granting mercy to a kombatant. scorpion realizes that this isn't the real sub zero but to be completly sure scorpion fought him. i think during that fight scorpion's spear grazed sub zero's eye.(i saw this somwhere but it does match the story line)

That's one part of Shaolin Monks that, while it seems like it's going against MK3's description, it's actually not. It also is the legitimate explanation for how Sub-Zero got his scar.
Being "marked for death" doesn't necessarily mean a physical mark is placed on you. For example, Han Solo in the infamous Star Wars is 'marked for death' by Bounty Hunters and Jabba the Hut for not paying up, but it's not a literal mark.

well there has to be some reasoning of how it happened...

Ppl read fan fic there are so many theories I've collected on this that it takes ages to list a couple some being:-
1. caused by fight with older brother for the Sub-Zero name
2. whipped in the face by the Lin Kuei Grandmaster
3. Part of a missile that exploded when it hit Smoke when they tried to escape the Lin Kuei
4. Caused in another fight with Sektor
5. a tattoo
6. did it himself to remind him why he left the Lin Kuei
7. an ex-girlfriend
8. scorpion
...etc
The Kung Lao explanation hasn't made it in yet so pick one

dont yall think smoke could have been the one to give him the scar like lets say sub zero was trying to talk him out of fighting him but smoke cut him with his spear
