The other stages didn´t change much. Maybe because all other stages are in the city (or Kahn´s fortress) created from steel and beton (which shoudn´t be affected by invasion). But I think the nature just died. (It is even mentioned in Annihilation, which I know is not cannon).  |
I thought you might bring up this argument. BUT, how do you explain the grass in the Graveyard then smartie-pants?  The ONE map from MK3/UMK3 where it shows non-concrete ground and it's natural grass and what not. We can assume from that then that the land doesn't just convert once Earthrealm becomes part of Outworld.
Don't even mention MK Annihilation here. You bring shame to TMK. jk. But on a serious note, I think it's called 'Smoke's Portal' because in MK2 you "go through a portal" to fight him as he has his own hidden lair, which is probably the same portal he went through to get there from Earthrealm. But these are all just theories I'm rattling off. Take 'em worth a grain of salt.  |
But maybe the arenas you are talking about are guarded by Nightwolf´s spell. (Hence the area is not affected by Kahn´s invasion). Let me win! Let me win!

Considering that the ´Smoke portal´ is just the portal from ´Choose your destiny´ screen, I doubt Smoke created the portal [/quote]

To be fair, the limited spacing on the older games would account for this map being reused. Also, it could be said that his lair just happens to look a lot like Goro's.

To elaborate, Smoke could have created this portal to get to his own lair. By the same token however, it could just be one of the portals Shao Kahn used to invade Earthrealm with and they decided to just call it "Smoke's Portal". Since there's no information provided on this level (as it was never reused in MKDA or MKD) we don't really know for certain. But given the name of the level, I think we can assume it's Smokes, and is the one he uses to go to and from his lair and Earthrealm.

Given that the Graveyard hardly looks like a native american one, I highly doube it would be protected by Nightwolf's spells. Also, it wouldn't make sense for him to have a spell on a graveyard of all places.

Could be, but then it makes you wonder why they'd call is 'Smoke's Portal' of all things, as opposed to something like Kahn's Portal, or Outworld Portal. I elaborated on reasons why it could be considered 'Smoke's Portal' above.
