Why wasn't MKM:S and MK4 released on the sega saturn system considering that it was a cd-rom system and had even more memory than the playstation? Also, why did it take longer for games to be released on sega's consoles?

Saturn was dead by the time that those two games were in development. It's a shame, I am a big fan of Sega's systems.

Games took a lot longer to develop for the Saturn because of the 3 processor system. Also, the Saturn wasn't built to do 3D games very well. Just based on how good Capcom fighters were for it, it should have been able to do 2D games far better than PSX. But, the developers were striving for one code base ported to the multiple systems which is why MK3 Win, MK3 PSX, and UMK3 Saturn are all incredibly similar, as are MKT Win, MKT PSX, MKT Saturn. If a version was being made specifically for the Saturn it probably would have rocked. I would bet at least some time was spent figuring out how they could port MKMSZ to the Saturn but it was probably not worth it because it wouldn't have handled the 3D elements right unless it had its own dedicated code base, which they just weren't in the habit of doing.

Thank you so much. I understand a little bit better now; but I still don't know what the code base is.

If you play MKT for PSX, MKT for PC and MKT for Saturn you'll notice that they are all almost identical. They developed one game and ported it to the different systems. They are so similar that you can copy all the datafiles off of MKT for PSX, and paste them over the datafiles for MKT for PC and the game will work, because the files are the exact same.

The difference is they kept fixing MKT for PSX, but not the other versions, so MKT for PSX is the least broken, best playing out of them.

Similarly the datafiles can be copied between MK3 for PSX and MK3 for Windows (but not for DOS. The DOS version was unique).

People say Saturn couldn't do 3D graphics well, well I have a saturn and I have to say it shits all over playstation with 3D graphics...have you seen Daytona or Sega Rally on it? Sega made all the best 3D games in arcade, the home ports tho cut down still had excellent 3D graphics.

DOS: Disk Operating System

Lol, you don't need to worry about DOS anyway. It's about fifteen years obsolete, and they haven't used its technology since Windows ME.

Regards,

I've played Daytona, I've played Sega Rally Champ Plus. They are OK for the Saturn. And they are only OK because of the immense work that went into them. Then you get Sonic R which was heinous. You get Wipeout, which had lower quality graphics than the PSX version and no 2 player mode (couldn't handle the split screen). You get Destruction Derby which came out for the Saturn a full year after the PSX version and had considerably lower quality graphics. It just wasn't built for it, and that is evident in almost every 3D game for it.

Nothing needs to be said beyond Battle Arena Toshinden URA.

I play my Saturn daily and I love it. It makes the PS1 look like a pile of puke. Puke

I'm a loyalist to Sega forever, and I have no doubts that it could have run MK4 on it. MK-MS would have worked fine on it as well for sure.

I think, on top of the fact Saturn was 'dead' at the time of their releases, the games never made it onto the system due to the extreme complications when programming games for it. This was one of the major problems developers had when making games for the system, which may have also been a reason why MK-MS and MK4 never made it to the system.

It's a shame because the controller for the Saturn was perfect of Mortal Kombat games...

I've been keeping an eye out for the PS2 Saturn controller. Looks like it could be fun to use.
