I have always found this reasoning to be funny, because every console is a computer. They have RAM, a motherboard, a hard drive/memory stick, processor, chipsets, and video card. You can turn any console into a "computer", as long as you have software that will run on it. I could take a PS2 and tweak it to run Windows XP. In fact, the Sega Dreamcast ran Windows CE (something many people don't know). So in all honesty, I can't take it serious when someone says they don't like a consolebecause it's too much like a computer. That's exactly what it is and always has been. |
I'm not educated enough on the subject to submit a reputable argument, but I still stand by my opinion. to me, the Xbox is more like a PC with gaming capabilities, especially moreso than its Sony and Nintendo counterparts. I think we can all agree to that to some extent.

She's right, Microsoft wanted to have connectivity between 360 and PC's at home, they pushed the wireless aspect heaps, and the fact that it works perfectly with USB devices and Media Center on PC.

that's not what I was trying to say at all. =x I'm not very eloquent, so I'll let a quote from Xbox.com tell what I'm trying to say.

see, I don't need that. that's what I have a computer for, and I enjoy my computer just fine. I'm not totally bashing on those of you who like the Xbox, but for me, it's just not something that I would enjoy using as much as my PS2 and soon enough, my PS3.

What I said was basicly what you quoted from M$ just in more words, hehehe. I know what you are saying, you want a game system first and would rather use PC devices on a PC. It's like Nintendo are a game system first and everything else is second to them, when they made the DS they didn't include things like movie / mp3 playback, but they made an official mp3 playback device later for those who wanted it.

...if I'm about to buy any system...it is most definitely going to be the Wii, shortly upon its arrival...have you seen the new teaser trailer at nintendo's website? The Wii will definitely out-rank the 360 and PS3...only die-hard fans of their games should want to buy them...but whatever...
...I've seen the 360's new graphics...I have to agree they're quite awesome...but the PS3 and Wii's new graphics are look like they're heavy competitors...
...I know that the 360 will sell more than Wii and PS3...though I'm sure after the Wii is promoted more...it will catch on rather well...we'll see...we'll see...

I will be getting an xbox 360 eventualy I didn't get an xbox untill MK-D was released as it's not out on cube over here. and there is no way in hell i'm gunna by a P$3. IMO sony are like every pice of music manufactured by peet waterman & simon carol.. suckers of satan's big black cock each and every ome of them.{RIP BH} what i mean is sony have not come up with any new Ideas for the gaming world they wait for every one else to think of the good ideas copy them and pump the advertising money in. however they do have some good games that should wake up and move to nintendo.
thats this SEGA & NINTENDO fan boys view on the mater.
and I spent £24 today on rebuying some of my chilhood games. Lemmings & DK country for the SNES + F-Zero X & crusin USA for my N64

Also, the PS3 is going to be the biggest waste of money. And it will drop after at most 2 years, sine that's the way the market goes. If they keep their price up for longer, then Microsoft will crush them without a doubt.

right now, the Final Fantasy series is pretty much exclusive to Sony (excluding handheld re-releases of older games, like Final Fantasy IV Advance and the soon to be released Final Fantasy III and of course what I view as the flops, such as Crystal Chronicles and FFXI)... so taking FF into account is one HUGE reason why I'm buying the PS3.
the price isn't as big of an issue to me, as I'm married and by the time it's released, we'll have two incomes being brought in, so we'll have more than enough cashola to buy one. I'm more concerned about the type of games being released catering to my interests, which shouldn't be a problem.
so like I said before, unless Final Fantasy becomes an Xbox exclusive, I think the chances of me giving into "M$" is pretty slim.

I agree that the PS has originality...and they take a risk unlike the box sticking with Tom Clany's shit...
...the only reason I wouldn't buy a new PS (even though I'll probably end up with one anyway) is because I think the Wii will crush all in its path...and I heard it will be around $250 upon its release as well...which opens my eyes

My name's not Mortal Kombat Rules it's Doug and some systems tend tod drop down in price 2 or 3 years after like the ps2 and xbox.

Uh-oh. I reared my head into a console fight. This can't be good.
1) If you know me, then you know I've cross checked like a bunny in heat on my information.
2) I'm not going to quote, because it'd take too long. If you don't believe me on an issue, look it up, I'm not your damn search bar.
My dvd player can play that and WMV and Divx and Xvid and more.
If you run windows media center, then it does it all behind the scenes and you can buy a controller that acts with it. Windows Vista will become even more incorporated. Vista and Media center support a DVR style playback system. Recording tv made easy.
FFXIII (one version) Will be on cell phones only. It isn't the same game microsized, it's a different game that gives a different side of the story. As well as the Versus game and the Main title. I hear Square sucking in the cash now.
The PS2 controller is essentially the same as the 360 controller, except the 360 has analog buttons (meaning the harder you press it the more power it gives, like stepping on a gas peddle in a driving game). Instead of the on/off digital buttons of the PS2.
The PS3 while looking roughly the same size, weighs more than it's PS2 and 360 counterparts. And, it is completely wireless, and no longer has force feedback, or 'dual-shock 2'. The 360 has it.
The PS3 won't have it. The reason being that the company that created force feedback sued a bunch of companies M$ and $on¥ being two of them. (Hey if everyone can use a dollar sign originally meaning peso for Microsoft, then I can use a yen and a dollar sign on sony.)
Microsoft did the smart thing and bought some of the company. Sony decided to sue. Well, gues who's got vibrating controllers?
The prices between the high end, and low end sony consoles is minimal. Making one wonder about the 100 dollar price tag.
The PS3 will have: USB, firewire, Media slots for memory cards, Bluray, DVD, CD, keyboard, mouse support. Hrmmmm sounds like a computer to me.
The PS3's newest bios... wait did I say bios? Like in BInary Operating System? Well good thing the PS2 and PS1 didn't have it.... Wait they did?! Like Sony's SPCH-1001? What else has a bios? Oh right, your computer at the startup screen (unless your comp hides it with a pretty bios logo. ^_^)
Well surely it wouldn't have a gui like a computer. It's a video game console, not a computer. Wait. It does? You mean those screens you can use to adjust date, time, mem card, current disc playing, pizza toppings? Huh. I guess that is a Graphical User Interface.
John Carmack quote on bieng asked which he'd prefer to program for by a G4 interviewer "The 360 is a lot easier to program for personally because it is so similar to a computer's programming. The PS3 is really hard to program for because the main cell runs on a basic PS2 compiler which is fine. But to use any of the other cells and pipes running between them, you have to decompile your code. Break it into different parts, and then recompile and recode for the specific other cells. It's a hell of a lot more work than most people would want to program for."
Son¥ put people to sleep during their show, and then snuck off stage so they couldn't be asked about the price and date. That's just bad taste.
FFXI is on the 360. The 360 and the PS3 have very little difference in graphical abilities at this point. Though Son¥ Says it can do 1080p, all the games at their conference ran at 780 or lower.
Sony has stated that the reason they had bluray as mandatory was so that they could 'help' sales of their bluray media.
The average bluray game is slated for $90.
There are currently rumors that microsoft will drop the price of their console around the date of the PS3 launch.
Currently, bluray specifications are not finalized. Which means that the players you buy today, might not play the movies you want tomorrow. And that will mean updating through some kind of 'internet'. Like a downloadable update through a server of some sort. Because you'd have to change the bios. Like a computer...
The Wii, is going to do well because the big N said "screw your noise we're gonna try something different!". Thank god they got it right, because I'd hate to see another virtualboy hit the big N. For you square fans, may I note that the man who created the virtual boy also created the gameboy. And that when the sales were doing poorly, Square uprooted itself from Nintendo's side and hopped onto the Sony train. Square had a deal set to create a final fantasy game for the virtual boy. But they broke their contract and paid the difference, all because of 1 console. Think about that if the PS3 flops. You'll be a little envious of the old Nintendo/MS gamefans. So you better hope it sells. Cause square has scrapped its plans even though it was 80% done with a game before...
The wii's graphics are not what is going to sell it. Currently the Wii's graphics have been compared to that of a N64 at best. So the big N better bank on price and originality in this next round, or it's going to be doing pretty shabby.
The 360 better keep its promise for emulating all the old titles. Currently, that's their weak suit. That and people hating microsoft as if they were ibm employees who got ripped off their stock.
Gates doesn't work their anymore, you can't hate MS cause of him now. And you can't hate MS because Sony makes 60 billion and Microsoft makes around 5.3 billion.
