I was in Jazz band when I was in 9th grade, and it was nothing but a positive experience. I learned more about playing and musical history in that class than I did previously in regular band class. it was awesome. <3

sometimes a song had a good bit of notes, but if that's your concern, don't worry.
I read your previous posts, and don't be worried about not being able to read the music. that's what your teacher is there for. you may have to stay after school a couple days a week, but it'll be worth it. =)

I was watching VH1 classic on sunday on the All Americat stunt or something, and saw this band called Heart and they were performing Barracuda. It's such a cool song, I can't stop listening to it.

Lessons only help so much. The real learning is in practice and exploring new songs yourself. So basically, don't waste money on TOO many lessons.

...yeah I saw that too...Heart's the best chick band of all time...though I was in the woom at a Joan Jett concert...

I can't play in the high school for the 9th grade because they say I to have to be in band and I had to have lessons for 6 months or something. Oh well, I'll try next year.

as a general rule, lessons teach you the basics of playing your instrument, but practice and experimentation are what familiarize yourself with the instrument and cultivate your skills.
lessons and practice go hand in hand, in other words. my advice is to stick with your lessons as long as you can. knowing that you're going to be learning more and getting better will keep you motivated better to stick with your instrument. if you're like Subby, though, and you're self-motivated, then you probably won't be as likely to stop playing after the lessons are done with.

All my Dad taught me really were rolls, 5-stroke, 7-stroke, and 9-stroke rolls, flams, flam accents, and flam taps, and a few simple drum beats, and I got better by listening to songs, but since you're learning guitar it's not as easy to get better on your own. I thought I could play Jump, but then I saw my dad play it a few days ago, it's kinda hard for my level to play Jump, I guess. I think I might get lessons so I can join concert band next year.

...you should try playing Def Leopards' crap with one arm... 
...lessons for guitar like Chibi said...it helps unless you can kick your own ass and practice...A LOT...and don't get let down when you can't play something...try again...keep it at your level but just a bit more challenging...most of the experts I see taught themselves by just playing random music they here or creating their own crap which may be for the better...
