go into your profile settings and go down to your avatar control panel. there will be a place to put in a URL to upload your picture from. if you want to use a picture from your computer, go to a website like imageshack.us or photobucket.com and upload your picture to the site, then use the URL from your photobucket or imageshack account to upload your avatar from.
I'm not very good at explaining things, but I hope that helped a little. =)
