...my mother and father raised me on an Air Force base...my grandfather and great granfather on my mother's side used to be in the Army (who knows after that)...my Aunt is in the Army...two cousins Air Force...three cousins Army...my granfather on my father's side was Navy...my ex-girlfriend joined the Army...her line of fathers in the Navy...I have a few friends that joined the Army as well...one friend that joined the Navy...about three friends that joined the Air Force...and one friend that joined the Marines...
...I'm considering the Marines...though I'd be the first in my family...and everyone keeps saying the Air Force has better benefits as if I haven't looked at the facts...

blech. Marines. if you wanna kill yourself and walk everywhere, go for the Marine way of life. everyone I know says that Marines are crazy, and from my experience, I'd have to agree with them. something about BMT kills you inside and you change as a person.
although, I'm sure you know all this. you don't seem like the type of person to make a decision without researching it thoroughly first. =)
but as an AF wife, I would recommend it over any other branch. from what I hear, the BMT is easier, the food is better, and the benefits are much better than with other branches.

...yes...I was raised in the Air Force Academy...it was good to my parents...though not what I see myself as...
...I study MC knowledge daily as well PT at the obstacle course (the high school's not too far away)...I'm in MCJROTC (Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) for high school and am a Junior now...as well the PT captain of my class...past six seniors and four other juniors...I know cadences and have trained to be a Drill Instructor...I drill hard...PT hard...and even sleep while thinking about knowledge...I sit at attention when I watch TV...I stand at attention when I'm bored...my sheets are clean...my brass and boots are always shined...my sleeves are tight...and I have uncontrollable bearing...I now have cadet Staff Sergeant ranks and have been promised my own class next year...as well Lance Corporal ranks when entering the Marine Corps...
...I guessed you'd have to live my life to feel how I feel about the Marines...but in a way it just seems like every other branch will just bore me...I've trained to be a Marine...I'm proud of the Marines...I want to be a Marine...

Haha, I had no clue there was another cadet here. I graduated an O-4 in NJROTC when I was in high school.
Nikki, not all marines are crazy. I know a bunch of them that have told me horror stories of Iraq, and yet they are the same person as before they left. Yes, I will agree that there are a lot of crazy marines, and people who have changed because of it, but you can't generalize about them all.

lol, I know they're not all crazy. a guy who even used to not like me in high school joined the Marines and when we ran into each other in an arcade here in Okinawa, he was all smiles and hugs and "how are you"s. so for some, I guess it could change people for the better. but on the inverse, I've had experience with Marines who are jerks and think that because they're Marines that they're better than other people.
Krave, I beg you, don't become one of those guys. you're much better than that, and I can tell from your post that your dedication is hardcore. I wish you nothing but happiness and success with your Marine career, but I know you won't need it with your skill and determination. =)

...O-4 eh? Only the cadet XO of the batallion is enlisted with that diamond...in which therefore only Drill Team can manage such a rank...the highest I could hope for is O-3...though as a CO the lowest would be O-2...oh yes...I will get O-3...
...hmm...I wonder what my life would be like if my school chose the Navy...*ponders in mind for a while*...

...your concern would make an un-straight man blush...and I would like you to know I've mainly considered the Marines as a secondary option below college...with my dual-credit in BCIS II and Spanish III I do plan on receiving Distinguished Achievement in which I will have uber college credit (yeah I said it)...the Marines have always been a thought though and if I don't provide the money necessary for the years it takes to become a Counselor the Marines will provide my resiliency...

Ah yes, I forgot that you guys get diamonds as your insignia. When I was a Lieutenant JG, and I was on fleet week, I had a problem with sailors actually thinking I was a navy Lieutenant. It was funny, but I didn't like it.
I have to say, I am a bit confused by this quote:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the XO should not be holding any position other than XO. It sounds like you're saying that your Drill Team's commander was also the XO?
What teams were you on? I was on all drill teams, including armed exhibition, academic team, rifle team, color guard, athletic team, and orienteering team. I miss being the rifle team commander

...we have only two teams...Drill Team...and the Rifle Team...though the Rifle Team does not correspond with ROTC in anyway...and is only considered an extracurricular activity by the shool board...it's Drill Team that gets all the credit...
...Drill Team gets the most rank though have their own specific periods...in which they are not allowed CO or XO of any class except the Drill Team class...the CO and XO of the Drill Team class are the CO and XO of the batallion...and only the CO receives cadet Lieutenant Colonal (O-5)...and only the XO receives cadet Major (O-4)...
...forgive me for 'schooling' you but I assume it just works different for us...the highest rank actually possible for me to earn is Captain (O-3) unless I have a sudden change of heart to have absolutely no free time and everyone be pissed at me 'cause I get ranks faster than everyone else...
