Hi all,
I've been a casual MK fan for awhile I own MK: Trilogy for PS1, and have just rented Shoalin Monks. It's a very good game and intend to buy it.
However, I'm also in the mood to maybe "update" my MK collection with a newer game and I was thinking of Deception. I know Amagedon is comming and some of you will say "wait for that," but I don't really wanna spend 50 bucks.
My question is: Is this the current best MK game or is there another I should look into? Deception looked the most interesting to me.

I'm even more of a casual MK fan than you.
I don't own a single MK game. *Cue shock*
But I have been borrowing Deception from my aunt in total about 4 months.
I'm not sure what other people think, but I absolutely adore it.
It's got lots of characters, the Konquest mode is awesome, and there are so many fatalities and Hara-Kiris. And the setup of the whole game is great.
It's a very long-lasting game, in my opinion.
Definitely worth a buy.

...since of the classics you've only owned Trilogy...then any classic before that wouldn't live up to it...and I have to say out of Alliance, Deception, and Monks...Deception is by far the best...the Konquest mode is amazing (not quite like Monks as the fighting is only in arcade mode)...you'll enjoy the krypt to unlock the characters and videos...but overall the best part is the fighting...if you haven't experienced it...you better...
...I understand price...I've never liked buying games as soon as they come out...except Mortal Kombat...
...I liked Deception far more than Monks...remember Monks is of the few that's an RPG and Deception is a pure-blooded fighting game...I hope you enjoy it...I still play it all the time...

Actually, of all the MK games I've played I like MK 1 the best. It's a pure and simple game.
No matter what I do, when I play trilogy, I loose. Even on Very easy!!
However, Deception sounds pretty good. I think I'll buy it along with monks.
I'm not a fan of the fighting genre, but I do like certain games. I am however a BIG fan of....don't hurt me  , Tekken.
One thing I definately like about monks over the others is Sub-Zero's costume. I've seen his costume from DA, D, and Arm, and I think Monks is the best. I liked his original costume and monk's is a modern version of that costume.
Any more input is welcome and thanks for the help!!!

I would also remark, that MK:D fighting is quicker which makes the game more action and thus very entertaining. And how could we forget the much more interactive arenas and deathtraps?
So if you really want to buy only one of these games, then Deception is IMO the better choice

After looking over everything for Deception and Armegeddo, I've decided to go with Arm. Yeah it's more expensive, but it is the last MK in the current style so you know they'll go out with a bang.
