I'm sure there have been topics about this and if so I appologize for the re-post, but what exactly is the story behind Raiden? I never played DA or D so I don't know how he came to wear his black uniform. I've heard the term evil raiden mentioned too.
I'm just curious as he's one of my favs.

...in the intro to Deception he basically eviscerated himself with this massive power in order to slay the Dragon King (Onaga)...it didn't work...so he came back to life as Dark Rayden...his first act was beating the hell out of Shujinko who's life's work was assisting Onaga (supposedly a good guy) in becoming alive again after he was slain by Shao Kahn many millenia ago...
...I'm sure you saw him as a total (and kinda stupid) prick in Konquest...he's officially dark now...just like how he was meant to be...

So Rayden became evil to destroy Onaga and failed. I haven't met up with Rayden in Konquest mode yet. Just started it, but he's a prick in there huh? Well I did beat arcade mode with him and I must say, his ending indeed didn't sound very Raydenesque copmpared to the earlier games anyway.
I do agree with a post someone made awhile back here, actually it may have been you l{ombat_l{rave. I think Rayden's alternate should have been his former self so us fans could play as classic rayden one last time.
Oh well. Thanks man.

...sorry...Rayden was still good when he tried to kill Onaga...it was when he died and came back that turned him evil because he was so angry at Shujinko...so...he beat the crap out him...
...it is sad not to see him in his regular form...and at first we thought everyone would have two alternate costumes so he could have his awesome Deception alternate as well his Alliance primary for his classic look...but since there could be only one they chose to have Dark Rayden only...just another minor flaw...

I kinda lost respect for him too. I can't get used to this dark evil stuff. One of the reasons I always liked Rayden was that he was the leader of the forces of good and was pure. (I actually only play as earthrealm warriors.) That is no longer the case.  Oh well. I still enjoy playing as him....just not as much.

Yeah Rayden is not very cool anymore. However regarding to this classic look I think you maybe able to Kreate him. But then again he loses a lot of special effects...

Now question. Is Rayden still protector of earthrealm in MK:A or has he moved away from that by the start of MK:A?

...at the end of MK: Gold Rayden had assigned Fujin to the rank of Protector of Earthrealm...he needed a replacement for his rise to Elder God...

It sucked that Raiden, seemingly a good guy, would bargain with the enemy to achieve the goal of protection of Earthrealm. He bargained with Kahn behind Earthrealm's warrior's backs. To me that is betrayal. Although he is a god, he should have assigned a new protector before he decided to bargain with an enemy like Shao Kahn. Kahn is known for not taking up his end of a bargain. After defeating Blaze, he would have attacked Earthrealm, then Seido and reconquered Edenia to have total control of the realms.
