So Ive been playing UMK3 off of MK:Armageddon (thanks TMK  )
and I still cant beat Shao Kahn.
Im using Scorpion because I could care less about the rest and well, I only know how to use him.
Im really starting to get fed up with these MK3, UMK3, Trilogy cheaply created A.I.
No difficulty setting nor some kind of practice mode.
I know why the A.I. is cheap. Ive read many say it was because the game was pretty much designed to steal your quarters. 
Anywho, it sucks in 1 player mode. I hate that I cant enjoy it because it looks cool. But its waaay too tough. And not in a cool way. MK2 was not as hard.
Is there a trick to beating Shao Kahn with Scorpion?
I felt as if I tried everything.
God, would it have hurt them to have a difficulty setting?
Im so frustrated

I can give ya a few tips, but most of my 'kahn stratigies' revolve around characters with projectiles.
Just obiously duck when you see him go for his flying knee, quickly follow with an upper cut.
When he whips out some hammer moves, teleport punch, just make sure you're not trapt in a corner because it wont work.
If I remember correctly, the spear doesnt work on him (Its been ages since I last used Scorpion) so dont bother (ofcourse I could be wrong, and if I am, use it everytime there is a bit of distance, or wen he goes for a Shadow Ram)
Whenever he throws his projectile, duck, and follow up with a teleport punch

Here´s my very CHEAP tactic for every character:
Always keep ducking and blocking. When Kahn performs his flying knee, uppercut him (just like Vain said). Then immediately run towards him and deliver the longest combo your character posesses (if your combo edns with uppercut, then just repeat the last part again). Then, just duck and block again. But don´t let him to trap you in the corner. It´s 60:40 you´ll win. Just try it again and again. But I´m sure our UMK3 combo masters could reveal much better ultimate tactics how to beat Kahn
Btw. that´s one of the reasons, why I prefer playing the newer MK titles (while in single player). Even if you choose higher difficulty, the game is still playable.

Kahn can be hard, I admit when I play UMK3 on arcade I hardly ever loose to Kahn, the reason is I can react super fast on an arcade and the joystick provides me with complete control, but when I play UMK3 on PS2 or XBOX It's alot harder I am slower at moves, I can't get my run timing right and sometimes I jump without meaning to...so first thing is to make sure you have pretty much mastered the control pad. Then with a little luck and skill Kahn will be putty in your hands.
Here is a video I made of me fighting Kahn (it has no sound due to an option I forgot to tick but you will get some great tips from the video) You can harpoon Kahn with Scorpions spear, thats how I used to beat him on arcade: jump back flykick (wait for kahns fireball) teleport punch (kahn usally charges but misses you) harpoon, then uppercut / combo / round house...repeat. But because I am slower at the PS2 and Xbox versions I adapt a few new strategies...check out the vid!

Yeah Shao Khan is hard on any level i had a hard time beating him on a lower level i adjusted in midway arcade treasures 2 in mortal kombat 3 but i didn't give up and eventually i beat him with shang tsung.

Total_MK, I just saw the video and am determined to try again right now.
So I'll be right back and hopefully I'll have good news. Hahaha.

OK! I finally beat the bastard! Thanks to that footage you shared, I managed to add some of your tactics to my roster of attacks and I won miraculously.
...after 6 trys of course.

Ok, after playing some more, I miraculously beat the game (Shao Kahn) 4 times now and at a faster rate too. Im starting to get the jist of the controls too (i hear ya TMK about the awkward control layout in comparison to the actual arcade). I wish I could move the run button over to R1 on my PS2. My fingers are moving faster though and im beginning to blurr right through the first 3 or 4 kombatants before things begin to get interesting.
My toughest opponent is Jade. I could never get her with my spear or any type of projectile because she keeps turning invisible everytime i attempt it. Very annoying and they shouldve taken that move from her in this installment. Its too much of an advantage I think.
But regardless, Im actually starting to have more fun with it now thanks to you guys for your tips and video.
Maybe this game will kick the noob out of my system from its difficulty.
