I just needed to know if anyone would reply first.
Okay, my problem is that my d: drive isn't working anymore.
my computer acts as if it doesn't even exist. I can't burn cd's anymore, I can't play music, and I can't find the d: icon under "My Computer" anymore.
It worked fine 2 days ago. _________________ Very Angry Girls Instigate Negative Attitudes.

Have you moved your PC recently?
(Turn off your PC before doing this): Check the cables (power and IDE) to the drive and make sure that they are firmly in place.
Reboot your machine, and check the BIOS to make sure it recognizes it. If the BIOS does not, then it is more than a typical Windows problem. The drive has probably failed.

I'm assuming that you haven't added any other CD drives/hard drives/etc to the same IDE channel as the CD drive. However, if you have added something, you need to make sure that there is no conflict between them. By this, I mean that your Cd drive has to be set to either a master or slave status, and the other drive must be the opposite. This is done by changin the position of the jumper on the back of the drive. Most drives come with a diagram to display proper setting of the jumper.

Have you installed new CD burning software recently? If you have, that may have damaged the system registry. I would suggest calling tech support of the software if this is the case.

The only thing that I have done this past week was install some dvd burners (which didn't work) so I ended up uninstalling them. _________________ Very Angry Girls Instigate Negative Attitudes.

In the process of installing and uninstalling multiple DVD burning programs, you may have damaged the Windows registry. I would do a google search about a missing drive and the programs that you tried to use, and see if anything pops up.

Did you get a burner installed recently?
Is D: and E: drives both DVD / Burner drives?
If so is one set to master, the other slave?

I'm not sure really. All I did was go into the registry and threatened to cut its throat unless it made my cd and dvd drives work. And they worked. Problem solved ^_^
(All I did was tinker with the registry) _________________ Very Angry Girls Instigate Negative Attitudes.
