Post subject: Homage to Scorpion in Ghost Rider Movie? |

We all know Scorpion is influenced (if not, it's pretty damn coincidental) by Ghost Rider, but in the latest Marvel adaption, Ghost Rider hints a homage to Scorpion.
I was watching a a short clip from the Ghost Rider movie and in one scene Ghost Rider wraps his chain onto a helicopter and pulls it towards himself and says, "Come Here!"

That's wicked how they put a trademark of scorpion of mortal kombat in the ghost rider movie just checked out that clip now it's sweet. Nicolas cage does a good job in that movie.

Thats awesome, especially since Scorpion is my favorite MK character, I just watched the clip and I'll say it again, thats awesome! good find dude.

I dislike all that is Marvel. Im actually offended they touched a Mortal Kombat trademark.
Because of this, in the future, some people who never played MK (the new generation) may think that Mortal Kombat ripped off Ghost Rider.
Hmm...or maybe not. lol.
Either way, Ghost Rider, meh. Scorpion, all the way baby!!!

You've all got it wrong. Ghost Rider came first, so if anything, Midway took G.R.'s trademark and incorporated it into Scorpion.

he was talking about the whole spear thing "come here" is the scorpion cry when he uses the spear. ghost rider never had that in the first place his chain always acted like a whip not a spear in the comics. so what he is saying is they ripped of scorpion in that sense not the whole flaming skull look or anything. yes indeed the rider has ripped off scorpion, but i guess they figured if scorpioin can rip off the flaming skull idea they could do some of his moves as retaliation.

Or, it could all be a coincedence. (sp?) Just because there are simularities, doesnt mak something a tribute, you'd be surprised how often it happens

I agree with the other viewer that this might not be a homage,but a coincidence, but this definitely isn't a 'rip-off'.
Ghost Rider in the comics could make his chain straighten into a spear, and he could break apart the links and shoot them towards an opponent at bullet speed. He has used it as a lasso, but never as a hook. In the clip I submitted earlier, it shows him actually 'whipping' the chain at the leg of the helicopter and bringing it closer to himself.
To me, Ghost Rider and Scorpion are kindred spirits of a sort. When I first read the little comic that came with my copy of the SNES Mortal Kombat game...it had a panel were Scorpion is holding Sub zero by the neck and theres a picture of a flaming skull behind him. IN that panel, he is seeking vengeance. If that's not a homeage, I don't know what is! At the time the game came out, Ghost Rider was mainstream and a top selling Marvel comic.
They both have a lot in common too. John Blaze's family was taken from him, his wife was killed, his kids are missing. He is constantly being manipulated by other forces, and he is always seeking vengeance, in fact Ghost Rider is the spirit of Vengeance.
Their both cool characters and I hope I nobody gets the wrong impression. Hell in Deadly alliance, Scorpions other costume is a flaming skull! Scorpion is by far my most favorite MK character.

Nicely said. I couldn't agree with you more. In some ways, it is a rip off, but in others, it is not.
