Interview with: Ho Sung Pak Interviewer: Vladimir Legkostup
Subject: About Ho Sung Pak Date: 22/01/2002

Vladirus: Since what age have you been training Martial Arts and how did you come to it?

Ho Sung Pak: I started at 8 years old and i tok it seriously at 13. My dad made me take it, because he wanted me to learn how to defend myself.

V: Do you carry on your family dynasty by your profession or you are the first fighter in your family?

HP: My dad was a judo champion in korea and japan, my brother is also a martial arts champion.

V: As I know, teenagers in Korean families are brought up by very strict traditions. Did this fact influence your future career?

HP: My parents were never very strict with me but rather they wanted the best for me...so i trained in china with the same coach that taught Jet Li.

V: You are an expert at such complicated style of Kung Fu as Wushu. Please, tell some words about your training it in China.

HP: Training in china was incredible...i learned many new moves but more importantly i learned how the best people in the world train and got myself to train that way when i got back to america... learning to train like a world class athlete is so important and you have to train with them to be one of them.

V: How did you manage to set a great record having won all the tournaments you took part in 1991?

HP: It really was amazing...that year my focus was unreal...besides training hard, which everyone does, you have to have a great mental game. in your mind you have to know that there is no one better, and that everyone is there to see you take it to the next level...the audience wants to be in awe and you are going to provide that to them.

V: You acted in films TMNT2 and TMNT3 as Rafael's dubbing actor. How difficult was it to produce fights wearing a costume of Ninja Turtle?

HP: Turtle's costume was soooooooo hot. It weight about 40 pounds and it was hard to see out of the head piece.the fights were rehersed so many times that i started doing it in my sleep and you get use to the costumeafter a week or so...but still it is pretty difficult because you are in the costume for 12 hours.

V: In Wmac Masters series Chris Casamassa and Shannon Lee were your partners. What's your personal opinion about their skill in martial arts?

HP: Chris is a very good martial artist and a good competitor. Shannon at that point only did a little bit of martial arts, but now i hear she is very good. Shannon is a great singer, and a wonderful person.

V: Are you working on any movie project now?

HP: Will be talking to producers about one in atlanta and one in vegas.

V: How did you get to the shooting of Mortal Kombat game?

HP: John Tobias knew me and asked Danny Pesina(Johnny Cage) if i will play one of the characters.

V: In MK1 you played two leading parts: the part of the main positive character and the one of the main villiain(Liu Kang and Shang Tsung). Which of them is more interesting for you?

HP: Liu Kang is awesome, but i liked the Shang Tsung character in MK1 not in MK2. i thought he should have stayed more of a mystic character.

V: Its rumored that at first Liu Kang was planned as a traditional buddhist monk with a shaven head, but you refused to shave your head, so Liu Kang appeared such a man as mk-fans know him today. Is that true?

HP: Yes he was to be bald(can't say much more than that).

V: What do you feel when you realize that millions of people love and recognize your personage from the first sight?

HP: It's pretty cool, the energy of Liu Kang is awesome!

V: Do you believe in the destiny?

HP: Yes i believe in destiny. I think that it is important.

V: What moves did you performed when played the roles of Liu Kang and Shang Tsung in MK1?

HP: All the moves. I think the best is the butterfly kick.

V: Which part of Mortal Kombat demanded most of all work for starring actors?(mk1 or mk2)

HP: MK2

V: Have you seen Mortal Kombat films? If yes, what is your opinion about Robin Shou's acting Liu Kang?

HP: Robin did a nice job...He is a great guy...

V: When you worked at MK1 did you expect the game to become so popular all over the world and to open a great series?

HP: We put alot of heart into mk1 so we were happy it did well.
