Sub-Zero awoke at five am. He rubbed his aching back and got up. When he entered the kitchen, he was surprised to see Frost cooking Fukusa Yaki, an omelette with shrimp and mushrooms.
"Ohayogozaimasu." Frost greeted as she set plates on the table for the Ninjas. Sub-Zero stopped her in the kitchen and kissed her. "Thanks for everything." He told her.
Frost looked into his eyes and smiled. "Did you get some sleep?"
Sub-Zero was about to answer when Scorpion and two Ninjas came to the table. "Go and awake the others." Sub-Zero said to Illusion, a female Ninja. She bowed and left the room.
Scorpion had seen Sub-Zero kiss Frost and memories of his wife flowed in his mind. He bowed his head as he ate, hiding his pain. If he could just take the Amulet once, he could bring her and his child back. Now Scorpion knew why Sub-Zero wanted it so badly. Ever since Sub-Zero's brother died, Sub-Zero vowed to get revenge. To get his brother back would be even better.
Illusion returned with twenty-four Ninjas and they sat down to eat.
Sub-Zero wandered outside after breakfast. The Ninjas and Frost followed him. To climb the mountain was a hard task, and many shadows waited for them there, but the Lin Kuei fought their way up. There was no sign of any living thing so far.
Frost emptied her water bottle and threw it to her left. The plastic was shattered into millions of pieces and a loud thud echoed against the mountain. Before Frost could see what happened, another sound came. The ground shook and Frost could see a great wall of snow rushing toward her.
"Avalanche!" Night Shadow shouted. "Run for cover!"
Sub-Zero grabbed Frost by the waist and hid behind the sharp rocks. The snow fell hard on the Ninjas, crushing them to the earth. Sub-Zero covered Frost with his body, taking all the damage. Thrusting his hand up, he crawled out of the snow, carrying Frost with him. The other Ninjas had all emerged except for Illusion. Scorpion was grasping her hand and pulled her out from beneath the ice. She gasped for air, her blonde hair covering her pretty face. She leaned against the yellow-clad Ninja.
Scorpion stared at Sub-Zero and Frost, but didn't say a word. Even though, Sub-Zero could see Scorpion's white, lifeless eyes speaking the words, "We won't make it next time."
Sub-Zero glanced up at the mountain. They were so close…What if they did make it? Then Sub-Zero looked at Frost's weary face. He shook his head. They had to go back.
"Everyone, back to the Temple." Sub-Zero announced.
He saw Scorpion give him a friendly nod.
The Ninjas walked to edge of the mountain with Illusion in the back. She stumbled forward and fell into the snow. Her arm slammed into a hard object. Illusion quickly stood up, thinking about the dangers of the mountain, but she saw a red metal hand. She slowly pulled on it and a robot's head appeared. Could it be…?
Illusion hastily dug around the robot. She grasped both hands and hauled him out of the snow. Illusion looked at his face and her heart raced. It was Sektor, the cybernetic Ninja she fought with as a team a year ago.
His sensors were still flashing, a sign that he was alive. It gave Illusion hope as she struggled with him. Scorpion helped her carry Sektor to the edge of the mountain. Getting down it with the robot would be the hard part.
