Two shadowy figures were slowly scaling the mountain of the Amulet through Night Shadow's binoculars. He ran to the Lin Kuei's Grandmaster and reported it. Sub-Zero took the binoculars from his student and fixed them on the mountain. A female Ninja in aqua blue and a red robot came into sight. They had passed the site where the avalanche had begun. Sub-Zero's eyes widened. Illusion must not have understood the fight last night!
He turned to Night Shadow, who was standing in the doorway.
"Send in the Ninjas, we're climbing after them. Hurry! Before it's too late!" He ordered.
Frost looked solemn as she stood looking out the window.
"This is all my fault," Sub-Zero sighed. "I knew she was too childish and still I fought with her, making her want a challenge."
"Don't be hard on yourself," Frost reassured him. "She's not your daughter. You are only her Grandmaster."
Night Shadow and the Ninjas appeared at the doorway, ready for battle.
Sub-Zero and Frost led them up the mountain.
"Argh!" Grunted the god of Wind as Sektor's missiles exploded in his face. Fujin slammed into the rocks nearby. He jerked his head up to see the cybernetic Ninja send a strong, roundhouse kick to his neck. Fujin felt it crack and then knew nothing. The god of Wind crumpled to the earth.
Sektor and Illusion were exhausted after their fight, but they still climbed on, unaware of their clan at the bottom of the mountain.
The two Ninjas walked on. In front of them stood about fifty rows of rock-arches.
"Watch it!" Sektor warned. Spikes flew down from a rock-arch in front of them and pierced through the ground a foot from Illusion. Illusion jumped back and stumbled to the side. She kept rolling and slammed into a stone statue. It toppled over and shattered into little pieces of dust. Luckily, the noise wasn't loud enough to echo off the mountain. A large opening was where the statue had stood. It looked to Illusion like a secret passageway.
"We'll never make it through those arches." Sektor told her, sadly shaking his head.
"Hey, come look at this." Illusion called him over. Sektor peered down into the hole. He slowly climbed down in it. A tunnel could be seen ahead. All around him was stone walls. They looked like an entrance to a catacomb.
Illusion climbed in after and followed Sektor through the cryptic tunnel. Above them the spikes fell with a thud. The sound echoed throughout the tunnel. When it reached the end, it sounded like lost a soul wailing in distress.
Illusion blindly followed Sektor through the dark underground passage.
"They were here twenty minutes ago." Cobra told Sub-Zero.
The Lin Kuei Grandmaster grimaced and walked on with the gang. They came to the rock-arches.
"Stop!" Frost ordered Dragon Image, a Ninja from their clan. She tossed a nearby rock through the archway. Spikes smashed to the ground. Dragon Image nodded his thanks.
"This is impossible." Night Shadow complained to Scorpion. The Shirai Ryu Ninja said nothing.
"Looks like someone wrecked this place," Shadow Phantom remarked, kicking part of the statue's head.
Scorpion's lifeless eyes widened. He looked around for the opening. There it stood to the right of him.
Scorpion made sure no one was watching as he crept down in the tunnel.
"Is that the opening?" Illusion asked Sektor as they saw a bright light ahead.
"Could be," Sektor replied. They trudged past the light and out of the passage.
"Whoa!" Illusion exclaimed softly.
Enormous golden walls that didn't connect to a roof surrounded them. Above, the sky was dark and tornado-like. Lightning could be seen every few seconds in the black clouds.
In the middle of it all stood a tall altar. Its four sides had statues of the elements: Wind, Earth, Water and Fire.
Sektor swiftly walked to it. Illusion followed him quietly. She didn't know what to expect.
Shinnok's Amulet levitated five inches above the altar. It was a round gold object with a green crystal in the center. Its brilliance gleamed mercilessly. Sektor reached forward and grasped the priceless Amulet.
But instead of wishing to become human and then replacing the Amulet, he froze. Sinister thoughts surged through his mind. He could become the ruler of all realms. He could live forever, be immortal. No one could stop him when he had this magnificent power!
"Sektor!" Illusion's voice came to his mind. Sektor turned to face her.
Illusion's pretty face was full of pain and confusion as she clutched Sektor's shoulder.
The storm had gotten worse and was weighted with wrath.
Sektor wished to become human as he gazed at the Amulet. Suddenly his face felt strange under his helmet. With one hand, he slowly pulled it off. Illusion gasped. Sektor was human. His spiked black hair and tan complexion stood out from his robot apparel.
Illusion, thinking it was now her turn to get her wish, reached out to grab the Amulet.
"No!" Sektor shouted. He wrenched her arm against her back. Illusion cried out in pain. Sektor was crazed now. He tossed his helmet aside.
"I am ruler of all realms!" He claimed in a human voice. "You will be my assistant."
"What? Sektor, what are you doing?" Illusion asked, perplexed. "We're a team, remember?"
"No one can stop me!" Sektor's voice rose and could be heard at the end of the mountain.
A blur of yellow leaped at them. Scorpion slammed into the Ninjas. They all rolled to the ground. Sektor still held the Amulet tightly in his red gloved hand. Scorpion sprang forward. He wrestled Sektor for the Amulet. Sektor seized his helmet and threw it at Scorpion's head. It struck him hard and he stumbled backwards.
Illusion got up, grabbed Sektor's waist and pulled him to the earth as Scorpion threw his spear at them. Sektor flung her aside and kicked at Scorpion. The Shirai Ryu Ninja reversed his kick and sent the Amulet flying.
"No, the Amulet!" Sektor screeched as he fell. Scorpion caught it and laughed. Unexpectedly, he couldn't stop laughing. He was going mad, extremely insane with the thought of power. He wished Quan Chi would die for lying about his wife and child.
In the Outworld, Quan Chi suddenly choked while seated on his throne. Noob Saibot, who was talking with him, watched in astonishment. Quan Chi coughed up blood and suffocated.
Noob Saibot climbed up the palace walls and ran as Shang Tsung entered. He cried out in bewilderment and ran forward. The sorcerer looked around for the assassin but saw none. He soon concluded that Quan Chi had died by poison.
Scorpion then wished for his wife and child to return. They instantly appeared by Illusion and Sektor, who were watching the storm swirl violently.
Sub-Zero and his clan surfaced from the tunnel. The Lin Kuei Ninja dove at Scorpion. They fought and screamed insults to each other until they were both weary. Blood trickled down from Sub-Zero's busted lip. The Amulet slipped out of Scorpion's grasp and fell in front of the Grandmaster. Sub-Zero's fingers touched it. Evil thoughts entered his mind, but he struggled and stayed on course: He wished for his brothers back.
They emerged out of no where and stood by the others.
Before Sub-Zero could wish for more, Frost snatched the Amulet from him. She stood there, shaking.
"Frost, what are you doing? You'll destroy all of us!" Sub-Zero protested.
"Silence!" Frost commanded. "Bow before your ruler!"
"Stop! Don't you love me?" Sub-Zero asked, hurt. Maybe he could bring her back to reality.
Frost's merciless face didn't change.
The storm raged and lightning flashed. A voice could be heard laughing. It came closer. A pink light flickered over the altar. It burst, sending the golden walls into pieces. When the mortals looked at the altar, they saw an Elder god standing on it.
"Shinnok!" Scorpion exclaimed in disbelief.
Shinnok leapt down and seized the Amulet from Frost. He laughed sinisterly.
"You fools," He taunted. "Because of your evil thoughts and your fighting, you have brought me back from the Netherealm! I am the only real master of the Amulet, for it is I who created it! I will rule all realms while seated on my throne in my palace! As for you, I can only express my gratitude by leaving you here to die!" He laughed. A portal opened before him and he disappeared into it. It swirled and vanished.
The storm was still seething. Lightning flashed and thunder crackled loudly. Another sound followed it.
"Not again!" Night Shadow exclaimed. Everyone watched as the avalanche raced toward them.
Lightning flashed in front of them and there stood Rayden.
"You idiots!" He exploded. "Look what you've done!"
He turned and opened another portal.
"Follow me, if you want to live!" Rayden ordered.
Everyone went inside and the portal closed. The avalanche rushed over the Amulet Temple, tearing everything apart.
Illusion didn't get her first wish, but Noob Saibot came back and took her with him to the Hidden Shadows clan hideout. With Quan Chi dead, he was free.
