Shinnok's Palace, Outworld 11:45 PM
"Where have you been?" Quan Chi stormed, slowly rising from his throne.
"You said I didn't have to spy today." Noob answered, not daring to say where he really had been.
"So I did," Quan Chi remembered. "But I understand that five members of the White Lotus Society were searching for you. I over heard them say that you befriended a female Ninja from the Hidden Shadows clan and the Lin Kuei."
Noob didn't look at him. He knew that the sorcerer had many "friends" who kept watch on the realms.
"Do you deny this?" Quan Chi asked, his face looking dark and sinister.
"No." Noob replied. "I team with her against other clans. She sometimes follows me on my journeys."
"Ah, the truth." Quan Chi smiled childishly. He sat down in his throne and ran his hands over the golden armrests. Shinnok had once sat in the same throne, but was now rejected to the Netherealm.
"Illusion, isn't it?" Quan Chi asked knowingly. "You love her, don't you?"
Noob didn't answer. He was trying to figure out where Quan Chi was getting at.
"Yes, silence is golden." Quan Chi sneered. "But what do you know about love? What does she know about it? Her family died when she was very young, did you not hear of it?"
The black Ninja knew all about it. He knew his master had killed her family, but he didn't answer.
"Saibot, you exasperate me!" Quan Chi screeched in rage. "Do you dare not answer your master?"
He sprang out of the throne and stood over the Ninja, wrath boiling through his veins.
"I give you three days to either kill or banish that female or I will have your head." Quan Chi ordered.
"Messing with other clans is hazardous to the Outworld's ruler, as you well know. Now go!"
Noob left without bowing. He never had disobeyed his master before, but now he was struggling.
He had to think it over and he didn't have the time. He saw the Hidden Shadows clan hideout. Slowly he entered through Illusion's bedroom window. Noob stood over Illusion's bed where she lay, sleeping peacefully. Clutched in her hand was the necklace he gave her for their friendship. The black Ninja slowly sat down next to her and hid his face with his hands. He felt trapped; he was trapped, torn between two different worlds. In one world he killed whoever his master told him to, and in the other he was free from everything, nothing mattered anymore.
Noob glanced down at Illusion's innocent face. She was totally unaware of what he could do to her. Noob kissed her lips softly and gently touched her face. His hands gripped a knife, which he pressed towards her throat, but he felt like he was killing himself slowly. Illusion stirred and opened her eyes.
"Hey, you." She said sweetly. "I thought you left."
Noob quickly pulled the knife away from her throat.
"I decided to come back." He answered, looking down.
Illusion sat up and put her arms around his neck. Noob felt horrible. Quan Chi's words echoed through his mind: "You love her, don't you?"
His knife fell to the floor with a thud.
"What was that?" Illusion asked, kissing his neck.
"Nothing." Noob replied. "Look, you've got to leave this state. Go back to Florida."
"Why? I'll never leave you." Illusion answered.
"You've got to!" Noob exclaimed. He saw the confused look on Illusion's face.
"Quan Chi wants to kill you. I was supposed to, but I can't
" He broke off.
Illusion got out of bed. "You have to come with me," She ordered.
"No!" Noob told her. "I can't, it's too risky. Just pack your things and bring your two brothers with you. I'll see you whenever I can."
"Won't Quan Chi kill you for letting me live?" Illusion asked, changing into her Ninja clothes.
"He said 'kill or banish her'." Noob replied, picking up his knife and sliding it in his boot.
"Wait, what if I go to the Lin Kuei Temple?" Illusion asked. "Sub-Zero will let me stay."
Noob thought about it. She wouldn't be too far away from him. At least not at far as Florida.
"Right, go there." He told her. The black Ninja walked to the window.
"Noob, don't go
" Illusion said softly. She stood by the door, her face full of grief.
Noob turned back and kissed her good-bye. He looked back once and then climbed out the window.
Illusion stood still, hoping he'd come back, but the curtains just flapped in the soft wind and cast shadows on the walls from the moonlight.
Illusion gathered her belongings and awoke her brothers, Cobra and Night Shadow.
"Come, we must run to the Lin Kuei Temple." She told them. They nodded and collected their possessions. Illusion led them to the Ice Temple where they were detected by Sub-Zero, the Lin Kuei's Grandmaster. He showed them their rooms; each Ninja had their own.
Sub-Zero's new accomplice, Frost, told them that they would have to train with the other Ninjas everyday. They nodded and went to sleep.
Illusion stayed awake. She held Noob's necklace tight and gazed out the window. A tall mountain could be seen far away. She wondered what secrets were up there, but didn't know that she would soon find out.
