| Chapter 13: Dream world |

Subzero's mind took a spin into its own warp hole as his conscience collapsed and his sub-conscience took over. Allowing Night Wolf to perform such a task as knocking him out could have easily been avoided. But something told him that if didn't, something would be missing.
Subzero swam in the darkness until he came to a figmant of fire that seem to represent the figure of Nightwolf right next to it. Subzero's body materialzed right across from him and he looked like he was almost in the same spot.
"Welcome to the dream world Subzero" said Nightwolf. Subzero looked around.
"I've been here before" he said sensing the familiarity of it all.
"Of course you have. Everyone comes here eventually in their dreams. Science tells us that of course there's more." said Nightwolf.
"So what are we doing here?" asked Sub. Nightwolf stared into the fire.
"You must be prepared if you intend to face your brother and Scorpion" said Nightwolf.
"Why are you doing this? It's not enough that Raiden wants me to know this, and Jade wants me to join Kitana and earth's forces, now you've come along and now I have to get the same treatment from you." said Subzero.
"You are a great fighter Subzero. But there is still much in your heart that needs to be awakened. Have you forgotten already what happened to you and your family?" said Nightwolf. Subzero's aura began to change as did his surroundings. He found himself amidst a carefully lit forest of large trees and low fog. He began to walk around begining to remember things he fought so long to forget.
"More memories" he said.
"Where are we?" said Nightwolf next to him.
"They tried to stop them. My father. He was part of the Lin Kuei's head assasins. But even he felt the need to slip away from the harsh lifestyle of the Lin Kuei. He tried to flee with his wife, my brother, myself and my...sister" said Subzero. The moment he said that he realized that he himself forgot more then just what happened to him, but to everybody. But now his memories came into focus.
"What happened Subzero" said Nightwolf. Subzero then saw his father. himself and the rest of his family trying to run away from the members of the Lin Kuei.
"They knew my families lineage carried special powers, for many generations my ancestors were trained by the Lin Kuei, and the bloodline lived on. Once my father, their best fighter tried to leave them, they tracked him down. They hunted him to this place." said Subzero.
Suddenly characters came into focus as Subzero's father began fighting off members of the Lin Kuei while his wife tried to flee with her two sons and daughter. They were so young, but in their own way, they all remembered those next few events.
The Lin Kuei circled around Subzero's father carefully.
"When did he find time for a family?" said Nightwolf.
"I don't know, but he did. And the Lin Kuei made sure that he paid for that treachery for trying to leave" said Subzero. He and Nightwolf watched as Subzero's father tried valiantly to fend off all the warriors, but they had him outnumbered by so many. Eventually he was taken down.
Subzero mother hid her only daughter away from the Lin Kuei and tried to find the same for her sons, but they found her too. Without shame, they struck her down and killed her and took the brothers back to the Lin Kuei compound where the bloodline of the clan would continue. and crying ever so softly in the distance as Subzero the child looked back, he vaguely heard the cries of his baby sister alone, and afraid.
With that, all the characters then vanished into the fog as it surrounded Subzero and Nightwolf.
"I have a sister" he said realizing for the first time he had more then just a brother left in his life.
"What happened to her?" he said.
"I don't know Subzero, these are your memories, they only tell you what you've seen."
"Was this what I was meant to see?" said Subzero.
"Your past must be known cold warrior. Unless you truly understand where you came from and who you are, you can never be a true fighter" said Nightwolf. Suddenly the areas became dark and Subzero awoke from his breakened sleep. He felt his throbbing head as he saw Nightwolf break concentration by the fire.
"How did you do that?" he said getting up.
"My people have their ways young friend. Call it a gift" said Nightwolf. Subzero took off his mask feeling there was no need to hide his face from an ally no longer. His eye revealed the drawn tattoo scar.
"Something to remember your brother by?" said Nightwolf.
"Yes. Alright then. It's very important that we find Scorpion now, before he gets to my brother if he..."
"Subzero. You just found out you still have a sister, why not search for her first?" said Nightwolf. Subzero didn't understand.
"There's no time for that. I have to know what happened to my brother. Scorpion is still out there, and he has Reptile on his side. There isn't any time for more delays like this. I have to find them" said Subzero. Nightwolf sighed.
"Indeed you are hard pressed for answers. But leave with this. If you kill Scorpion, and your family vanishes forever, what will you be left with?"
Subzero turned his back putting his mask back on again.
"I don't know" he said then walked away disappearing in the shadows. Nightwolf sat back down by the fire and began to chant as the sparks danced and coiled around the flames. In the background he could here the wolves howling at the bright moon. And there were wolves around...
