| Chapter 10: In the mouth of the past |

No sooner had Subzero reached his caretaker's place did he notice that the hinges of the door had been busted through. Like lightening Subzero bursted through the door and held his arms out ready for an attack of 3 or more individuals. There was no one in near sight. The interior had been ransacked a great deal and above all, the old man clear as day light was laying face down on the hard wood floor in a pool of his own blood. Subzero lowered his guard and bent on one knee to put a hand on the old man. Clearly someone or someones had come in and killed him and from the looks of it had been looking for something as well.
Subzero did not speak in front of the dead. A manner that he was taught at a young age. The might of the spirit could be swayed back to Earth and never reach beyond. Subzero found a smooth long blanket and covered him up. As he coverd his feet he noticed a fine rugged piece of paper held neatly tucked under the end of the old man's boot. Subzero grabbed it and opened it up to see what it was.
To his surprise, Subzero had found the information that he had originally asked for. written in an old text were the names of people and their connections to the ninja known as Scorpion. It wasn't an exact whereabout, but it was a start. Subzero folded the paper and tucked it away in his Lin Kuei cover. His time here had ended. Though there was a calm price felt in his cold heart, he knew there was nothing he could do.
On his way out the door Subzero noticed one final clue shining out of the corner of his eye. He walked back inside to see what it was that layed over the writing table that the old man had been on before. Subzero held it up and studied it's mettalic markings. It was oval and had two seraded points at the end shaped like a pointy dagger that fit in the palm of his hand. It didn't take long for Subzero to figure out who was responsible for the old man's death.
"Reptile" said Subzero clenching the metallic medalion. Without another word spoken, Subzero was out and gone like the breath of the wind. Subzero made his quick way out of Jui Jsinn and headed towards the mountains of Neri where his first act of finding Scorpion would begin.
During his travel, he tried to unravel why the creature Reptile would be on the side of a dead warrior. After the original Mortal Kombar ended with Lui Kang as the victor, Reptile appeared and became part of the second tournament. Not much was seen of him after that though. He was thought to have been killed by Jax, but then again, nothing is ever what it seems in this day and age.
Never the less, Subzero hurried on towards the tops of Neri, there he would search for the mythical american who has traveled here himself, the native american Night Wolf...
