Once the last guard was thrown to the floor, Kahn and Baraka joined the queen in front of the portal. “To Outworld!” Kahn shouted as he grabbed Sindel’s hand and jumped inside the portal. “Just like old times aye, Emperor!” Baraka shouted as he jumped in after them. Early the next morning, Rayden pleaded with the Elders about the Johnny Cage situation. “This is indeed serious,” Love informed. “There is nothing more we can do. The Lord God’s Word is law.” “I understand my friends,” Rayden assured. “But couldn’t we just get a little more time.” “It is quite impossible,” Earth said. “I’m so sorry, Lord Rayden.” “Well, I guess there really isn’t much more to it then,” Rayden said. “We have to plan a strike against Kahn in Outworld.” “Listen carefully to what you are saying, Lord Rayden,” Wind warned. “Has it slipped you mind that you’re powerless in the Outworld?” “No, my masters,” Rayden answered. “It has not. In fact, I have been contemplating this move ever since that first battle at the Temple of Light.”
A dizzied and confused Stryker, who entered the room abruptly, interrupted the talk. “I-I’m sorry for this, Rayden,” Stryker said as gasped for air. “Well, what is it, son?” Rayden asked concerned. The ex-police officer managed these words before he passed out, “S-Sindel, she-she attacked us and helped Kahn escape!” “What are you going to do about this, Lord Rayden?” Water asked. “The only thing we can, Elders,” Rayden replied. “We go to Outworld now!” “Strange,” Liu said to Kitana as they gathered in the vehicle bay. “What’s that, Liu?” Kitana asked. “For the second time in my life I enter your world to save mine.” Rayden stood in front of the Dragon jets and opened a large portal. He then boarded his newly repaired Thunderbolt. “Let’s go!” he yelled into his speakers and the four jets took off. Once more everyone left except Nightwolf and Jax who was as bitter as vinegar about not being a part of the mission. “It’s not fair that I’m not allowed to fight, Elders!” he protested. “Earth realm’s just as much my responsibility as it is theirs!”
“Oh you’ll get your chance to fight, Major,” Fire assured. “I sincerely hope so, sir,” Jax said. The Kombatants arrived in Outworld only moments after their entering the portal. Once they landed, they all marveled at the change Lord Rayden had undergone. Because he was without powers, he had been reduced to mortal status. His long white godly hair had been replaced by a low blonde crew cut. A pair of baggy khaki pants and a navy blue fighter’s vest replaced his thousand year old godly white outfit. “No time to dwell on appearances, people,” he said. “We’ve got a job to do. When we all make it to the Black Tower, we’ll split up, meet in my brother’s throne room, and go from there.” They camouflaged the jets and set out towards the Black Tower.
They walked quite a distance before stopping in front of an old temple. “This was the royal family’s temple,” Liu Kang said. “Oh, my God. Kitana, this used to be your home.” Before Kitana could reply, the loud scream of a woman froze them all. The seven fighters turned to see Sindel in fighting stance standing atop a column among the ruins beside the temple. Two Reptiles flipped out from behind the column as well. Rayden ordered, “Kitana, Liu, Sub-Zero, keep on till you get to the tower. Sonya, you do the same, only travel in another direction to throw our enemy off. Stryker, Kabal, get those Reptiles! I’ll take care of her!” As the four Kombatants headed off, Rayden, Stryker, and Kabal ran towards the triple threat. Sindel shot a mouth fireball at the leader, blasting him inside the decrepit temple, where the Reptiles followed. Kabal and Stryker then looked at each other nervously.
“Match ya for it?” Kabal asked. Stryker nodded his head and the two men proceeded to play a brief game of Paper, Scissors, and Rock, which Stryker won. Kabal grunted and drew his blades. Liu, Kitana, and Sub-Zero were halfway to the tower when a mass of smoke began to form around them. The warriors, unsure of what was about to happen, got into their fighting stances. When the smoke cleared a gray colored cyborg and several guards surrounded the trio. “Annihilate the mortals!” the cyborg shouted. Liu Kang shot a Dragon fireball at two guards and made his way to the cyborg. “Since you like giving orders, let’s see if you can fight as well as you give them!” Liu said. The cyborg did a clothesline on Kang, knocking him to the floor. Liu jumped to his feet and attempted a roundhouse kick but the cyborg blocked it. Sub-Zero swept a ninja while Kitana neck chopped two at the same time.
Two guards then chased her to a nearby wall. She turned around and caught one in with a chin kick. She slapped the second in the face with one of her fans. Sub-Zero jump kicked a hama out of a ninja’s hand and froze his face. Two ninjas threw a net over the ice ninja and punched him to the ground. He froze the net over him and it shattered into pieces. He leaped off the ground sinking his fists into the ninjas as he came up. He then joined Kitana who said, “Looks like Liu could use a little help.” “Oh,” Sub-Zero said. “he’ll be able to handle the problem just fine. Just give him a little time.” The cyborg knocked Liu to the ground once more with a roundhouse to the face. Liu rolled out of the way and jumped on a pillar. “Let’s take this fight to higher ground, you worthless bag of bolts!” he shouted determined. “Get your ass down here!” the cyborg shouted.
The cyborg opened his chest and a missile flew towards Liu Kang. With one foot, the warrior flipped off of the pillar and fell to the ground. The missile blew up the pillar and the structure behind it. Liu got himself together quickly as the cyborg approached him and started a combination of kicks and punches. Though he managed to block some of the attacks, Liu was knocked back into a nearby wall of the dilapidated structure. Before he could rise again, the cyborg set up for another missile shot. Sub-Zero fired an ice blast high into the air. As the missile began to launch, the blast descended back to the ground and froze both the cyborg and the missile. Kitana noticed that the missile was still active and shouted, “Liu, the missile!” Liu ran past the frozen cyborg and back kicked its remains into the structure, where it exploded. “What was that damned thing?” Liu asked mystified. “He was once human,” Sub-Zero explained. “He is called Smoke. He was once my best friend and now is programmed to be my worst nightmare.”
Sonya walked through a large valley full of large, broken rocks. Halfway through the valley, she passed a statue in the form of something, she thought, out of a horror movie. Disgusted and appalled by its appearance, she said “Ugh!” and continued on her way. She heard someone scream “Hi yah!” and turned around. A masked female fighter leaped from behind the statue towards her. She fell to the ground and propped herself up on a large rock. She noticed that the woman was in a fighting stance, wielded Japanese sais, and bore a disturbing resemblance to Kitana. “Kitana?” she asked puzzled. “You wish, bitch,” the woman snobbishly said. “The name is Mileena, remember it!” She leaped at Sonya again. Sonya moved off the rock and Mileena stopped herself on it and pushed herself off. Coming off the rock, she managed to land a kick in Kitana’s face. The blow knocked Sonya to the ground and she rolled until she found refuge at another large rock.
Mileena ran to the rock and tried to stab her in the face with a sai but was thwarted by Sonya’s foot. Mileena dropped the weapons and got into a wrestling tie-up with Sonya. Mileena broke out of the tie-up, twisted the woman’s arm, and landed another kick, this time in the abdomen. She then slammed Sonya’s face into the rock causing her to scream. Sonya then used both legs to catch one of Mileena’s and bring her to the ground. Mileena grabbed one of the sais and tried again to stab her yelling, “I got you now, bitch!” Sonya then performed a Rising Leg Kick on the Kitana “clone” knocking her high into the air. Before she could hit the ground, Sonya did a Flying Punch and made her fall even harder.
Mileena got up dizzy, picked up her sais and launched them at Sonya. Sonya caught the sais and threw them to the ground. “You told me to remember your name,” Sonya said snobbishly. “Well, whore, you remember this!” Pinkish energy began to collect in her hands. She formed a ball with it and shot it at Mileena. As the ball flew towards the female ninja, it grew into a net. The Pink Haze swallowed Mileena, crushing her and blowing her bones all over the valley. Sonya said, “Fatality,” and headed back the way she came. Rayden awoke inside the royal temple. He stood to his feet abruptly and noticed the Reptiles had came inside with him. He smiled and backed away until he reached the altar. The Reptiles pursued him to the altar. He quipped, “Come get some!” and one lizard ninja attempted a jump kick at him.
The Thunder “mortal” flipped out of the way and somersaulted to the middle of the temple floor. The lizard ninjas did the same and one tried at a full frontal attack. Rayden blocked two of the ninja’s punches and knocked him unconscious with an air roundhouse kick. The remaining lizard ninja and Rayden then exchanged roundhouse kicks, neither one not so much as even grazing the other. Reptile two then tried a sweep, but Rayden flipped out of the way and back to the altar. Reptile two joined him there and threw jabs at Rayden, all of which he blocked and tried to counter with hooks. The lizard ninja landed a sucker punch in Rayden’s jaw, knocking him back. He then stood on his hands and kicked him in the other jaw. He tried to rush Rayden, but he caught him in a headlock and uppercuttted him into the air and onto the temple floor. He flipped off the altar and made sure the Reptiles were unconscious.
Sindel flipped Stryker to the ground and Kabal managed to grab her arms. “Give it up!” the masked loner demanded. “If you surrender we’ll…” Before he could finish, Sindel blew some purple love dust into his face. “How about we leave this loser here and go someplace cozy?” she tempted. “And you!” She blew some dust into Stryker’s face and said, “Pucker up, Officer.” She would have kissed him if Rayden hadn’t yelled, “Stop, do not kiss that seductress! It’s all bull! She has us all under the influence of a rare Outworld plant called sedu`ce! The powder produced from it makes mortals and non-mortals alike willing to die for a woman!” “Is that it, Rayden, we’re under some kind of spell?” Stryker asked. “Do not listen, boys!” Queen Sindel pleaded. “The Thunder god lies! He doesn’t want to see us together! He only wants me for himself.” “Is what she says true, Rayden?” Kabal asked. “Yes it is,” Liu answered as he, Sub-Zero, and Kitana approached the four fighters.
“You need to come off that high horse you put yourself on, Rayden,” Sub-Zero stated. “Forget these morons, Sindel,” Liu Kang said. “Let’s get out of here!” “Liu, listen to what you’re saying!” Kitana shouted. “What happened to what we had?” A full-scale argument followed. Rayden stood back disgusted as his fighters had each other by the throat. The argument ended when Sindel stood on top of the column and said, “When one of you is left standing, give me a holler. Ciao!” She disappeared in a cloud of purple smoke. The warriors stopped the arguing and headed towards the Dragon jets. Sonya, who had not been present before, came and asked, “What happened? Where are they going? I can’t do this by myself!” Rayden looked at her, shook his head, sighed, and walked back towards the jets. The strike against Outworld had failed miserably. Sindel got a warm reception from everyone except Shao Kahn when she returned to the Black Tower.
“You should be thanking me,” Sindel said. “If it hadn’t been for me, they would have penetrated base!” “Because of your flirting and flaunting, I lost fifteen guards and my two best lieutenants!” Kahn exclaimed. “I thought I was your best lieutenant,” Scorpion said, who was present in the throne room. “Silence, fool!” Kahn shouted knocking the ninja senseless. “No matter though,” Kahn said. “I have finally amassed enough power in my Soul Chamber to claim all of Earth realm’s souls for my own. Sindel, they will try again. Your job is to stay here, wait for ‘em to show up, and make sure they finish each other off. The rest of you will accompany me to our newly established base on Earth’s moon to take part in the dawning of a new era. The annihilation of the Earth and the establishment of the most powerful dynasty in existence!” He laughed maniacally and the others all joined in with him.
Sonya, Liu, and Jax looked on as the Elders examined Johnny’s body, which had been placed on a hospital bed in his quarters, one last time. Love approached them with the verdict. “Time is running out,” Love said solemnly. “Whatever Lord Rayden is going to do, he better do fast.” Sonya began to cry on Jax’s shoulder as Liu felt another presence. He looked into the hallway and saw Rayden standing there, fully returned to his god form. There were tears in the Thunder god’s eyes. “So what are we going to do?” Liu asked demandingly. “Well, what I’m gonna do is this,” Rayden replied. “First, I have some things I need to work out with Nightwolf and then I’m going after Kahn and Sindel…alone.” “No chance in Hell, Rayden,” Liu said with a stern look on his face. “Not now, boy,” Rayden said with an even sterner look on his face. “The way this god feels right now, I’ll tear you into a thousand pieces!”
Shao Kahn’s forces boarded the specially designed craft for space travel. Kahn looked on and told Sindel, “Tonight all my father’s millenniums of planning will finally be rewarded. He will be proud. As for Rayden, his heart is too strong for any mere dust. He will defeat you. I’m gonna take one of those lightning bolts and shove it up his ass.” “You’re talking as if I’m supposed to fear him,” Sindel sneered. “Oh, you should,” Kahn warned. “You do not know my brother the way I know him.” He burst into laughter and shouted “Victory!” and boarded the craft. “You just wait till this is over you arrogant fool!” Sindel whispered. As the craft took off, she approached the window and said, “Time to call my men.” She opened a large portal outside and screamed into it. The scream made it to Earth realm and to the Temple of the Elder gods.
Stryker was asleep in his quarters when he heard the scream. He awoke to it and said to himself, “That’s the babe, I better go.” Sub-Zero was practicing on a punching bag when the scream came to him. He smiled, dropped his gloves, and left his room. Kabal was sharpening his blades when the scream made it to him. He almost cut his hands until he caught himself and turned the machine off. Liu was meditating once the scream found its way to him. He awoke out of the trance and started towards the vehicle bay. Rayden was talking to Nightwolf and then the scream “froze” him in his tracks. “What’s the problem, Rayden?” Nightwolf asked. “I forgot to tell you I’d been affected by the dust as well,” Rayden explained. “I know this is going to sound crazy, but Sindel’s calling me with her scream.” “What?” Nightwolf asked, puzzled. “You just get that equipment ready,” Rayden informed. “There’s one more thing I’ve got to do.”
Rayden walked into Johnny’s room and shut the door. He approached the lifeless Cage and rubbed his face. He held his head down for a moment and said, “I’ve spent thousands of years trying to defeat my own flesh and blood. Everything I’ve done for this realm, its people, and my fighters, everything in my power I can do, and I can’t save you.” “There’s no shame in mourning, Lord Rayden,” Love said as he/she/it entered the room. “Hope is not lost yet, my child. You can still build up enough confidence to win this thing. I know you can. You don’t have to prove anything to me, but do make an effort to prove yourself to him, your fighter, your ally, your friend.” The Thunder god looked upside the wall and reminisced about the night he met Johnny aboard Shang Tsung’s ship. He smiled and tears grew heavy in his eyes. He placed his hand on Johnny’s forehead and said solemnly, “I love you, Johnny Cage.” “And he loves you, too, Lord Rayden, as do I,” Love said. Overcome with grief, the Thunder god picked up the slain actor and hugged him for a brief moment. The tears were now pouring from his eyes.
