The Temple of the Elder gods barely cast an early morning shadow the next day. In the small room where all the hallways met, the Kombatants slept. All of them had been restless and uneasy the night before. This was mostly because they were all worried about Johnny. Lord Rayden then made his way into the room. He looked at each of his sleeping fighters and thought, “All these thousands of years, trying to nail that bastard and finally I got lucky last night thanks to those eight mortals. Life sure is funny. I’d have never thought in a million years that they would overcome the odds the way they did. Like I said before, humans are so unpredictable!” He lost the thought when he heard footsteps approaching from upstairs. He turned around to find none other than Johnny Cage descending from the steps. The Thunder god smiled and simply asked, “Well how the hell are you, Mister Cage?”
“Hungry, happy, and horny as hell, Lord Rayden,” Johnny replied. “I haven’t eaten in days. I’m happy to be alive again and I feel like pumping someone’s daughter right about now, preferably Miss Sonya Blade.” The other Kombatants awoke to find the pair talking. They all jumped up and shouted for joy. One by one the Kombatants said their hellos to Johnny. Sonya approached him last and said, “Well, first things first, baby. This is my partner, Jax, whom I told you about at the tournament.” “How’s it going, man?” Jax greeted. “I just came back alive, how about you dude?” Johnny answered. “Oh, nothing much except for helping to give everybody on Earth a soul,” Jax responded. “Secondly…,” Sonya said. She came close to him and kissed him for a full thirty seconds. “Nice job, Eagle!” Liu Kang congratulated Lord Rayden. “Same here, Dragon!” Rayden replied.
The Elders then joined the joyful fighters and their leader. “You see, Lord Rayden,” Love said. “You stopped being so obsessed with Cage’s death and being victorious for a few hours, they all kept their heads up, and you came out on top.” “You must be proud,” Water stated. “Oh, I am,” Lord Rayden assured. “Never in the history of Mortal Kombat have I had such exceptional fighters under my tutelage. They never really let me down and they gave it all they had and more. I love and appreciate you all for what you did for me, the Elders, and more importantly, this realm.” An alarm rang as they were talking. “Kombat Alert!” Nightwolf exclaimed as he ran into the room. “Shinook’s attacking the Netherrealm!” “Ready for some action, movie star?” Jax asked. “As ready as I’ll ever be, Major,” Johnny responded. “So we a team, Cage?” Jax asked as he held his hand out for Johnny to shake it.
“Most definitely,” Cage replied as he embraced Jax’s hand. “Prepared to rock again, cop?” Kabal asked Stryker. “You know me, man,” Stryker said. “I’m prepared for anything.” They joined Johnny and Jax’s hand embrace with their own hands. “Let’s do it!” Sub-Zero said as he added his hand to the embrace. “We’re stronger than we’ve ever been before,” Sonya said. “Whoever this Shinook is, he doesn’t stand a chance!” She placed her hand with the assembly as well. “Count me in, too, guys,” Kitana said as she put her hand on top of Sonya’s. “You all can rely on me to be with you all the way, too, people!” Liu Kang exclaimed slapping his hand down on the other seven. “Well, what are you waiting for Lord Rayden?” Earth asked. “Are you down or what?” Wind asked. “You chose them all to fight. They’re in your hands, now,” Fire said. “Of course I’m down!” Rayden exclaimed. “Every good team needs a leader!” He charged his hand slightly and slapped it down on the eight hands, sending a small charge of electricity through each of them.
The Kombatants ran off to get ready to fight. Rayden then said to himself, “Yes! They truly are the best collection of fighters I’ve ever assembled!” He smiled and wiped away a few tears as he headed towards the weapons storage and vehicles bay after the Kombatants. “Another day, another battle,” Nightwolf said to the Elders. “Mortal Kombat begins…again!”
