Kai, Tanya, and the guards led Lord Rayden and his fighters towards the palace. Meanwhile, Komodai and his Reptiles met with Shinook in his Hindpar headquarters. “How do we know thiss plan is foolproof?” Komodai demanded. “Have I ever given you a reason not to trust me, Komodai?” Shinook said in his most charming voice. The leader of the lizard ninjas hissed and then said, “Thiss is not about whether or not I can trust you, it’s about the safety of my people!” “I guarantee their safety,” Shinook assured. “Surely you do not believe that the powers of the Lagronites can withstand the ancient powers of the lizards.” “OK, we have an agreement,” Komodai accepted. “You’ve got yourselves some mercenaries for hire. Ring if you need us!” The lizard ninja and his associates turned invisible and slithered and climbed their slimy hides out of the throne room. Ermac and his bruised and battered guards entered thereafter.
“Well, did you succeed?” Shinook asked sternly. “No, my lord,” Ermac answered ashamed. “The Earth realm warriors were as good as defeated but some Lagron natives interfered in the battle. We were no match for them. Forgive me, my lord. We are not worthy.” “You’re damn right you’re not worthy!” Shinook screamed to the top of his lungs. “Get out of my sight, you worthless sacks of entrails!” The red ninjas all bowed as did their leader and left the presence of the fallen Elder. “Dammit!” Shinook shouted. “I can’t get anything done right around this place! Next time I want my enemies defeated, I’ll destroy ‘em my damn self!” The palace of Queen J’Zonia was larger than what it appeared to be. It had everything a palace usually has and more. The Earth realm warriors marveled at the beauty of the place. Kai and Tanya led the Earth warriors to the throne room. Most of the people they encountered on their way to the Queen’s throne room were friendly and willing to embrace them.
The throne room was enormous in size. Guards, musicians, and slaves surrounded the room and the throne itself was adorned with many exotic jewels. “Prepare for the entrance of Queen J’Zonia!” Kai exclaimed. A great fanfare started as the doors to the throne room were opened and Tanya helped some slaves roll out a burgundy and gold carpet. “The red carpet treatment, huh,” Johnny said. “What a woman!” Sonya gave the actor a slight shove as a signal to make him shut up. The Queen then made her entrance. She, like Tanya, was an average-sized woman. Her headdress reminded you of the tail feathers of a peacock. She wore a beautiful burgundy robe covered with frilly golden decorations. Ruby red lipstick covered her lips and her cheeks were rosy red. She was very fair-skinned and had a noble expression on her face. As she made her way to the throne, Kai, Tanya, and the other Lagronites alike bowed in submission to her. This woman, Lord Rayden thought, was the Lagronites’ whole life, their whole existence. They would pledge themselves to her eternally.
Queen J’Zonia took her throne and greeted, “Good day, my subjects. Old business.” A scribe ran in front of the throne and said, “Well, Queen the therone weeds are still choking our emergency generators but we have begun to relinquish the problem by developing a chemical agent to kill these weeds at the root.” Another scribe approached and said, “Last Qwadray’s awareness meeting went well, my liege. We have finally come to a decision.” “I am glad to hear it,” the Queen replied. “The fact that you could not make a decision was keeping me awake at night.” “Nyquil will help get your Z’s,” Kabal whispered to Stryker. “We will now proceed with new business,” Queen J’Zonia said. Kai and Tanya led Rayden and his friends to the front of the throne. “These aliens have come to our planet desiring our powerful resources in order to replenish their chi and save their gods,” Tanya announced.
“Let us hear what they have to say,” Queen J’Zonia said. “How about you, white-haired one.” Lord Rayden took a big swallow in his throat and said, “Well, Queen, we were attacked by my father, Shinook Zucosia, fallen Elder of the realm called Earth. He imprisoned our other Elder lords in the Scepter of Gon Gou Lye and thus, we were stripped of our transportation, weaponry, and powers.” “So now you seek to claim the great powers of this world as your own forever?” Queen J’Zonia asked. “That was not our intention,” Rayden assured. “We merely needed to borrow your great resources until our Elders are freed.” “You seem to have misunderstood what you have heard about our realm, sir,” Queen J’Zonia corrected. “Once our Lagronitic powers have been bestowed upon an outsider or outsiders, they possess these powers forever. Is this truly what you want?”
“Yes, it is,” Rayden answered. “If our Elders are not freed by tomorrow night, our realm will cease to exist.” “So be it,” Queen J’Zonia agreed. “The powers of the Lagronites will be bestowed upon you all after you pass three tests.” “Excuse me, Queen,” Liu Kang interrupted. “But what tests?” “These tests will determine whether or not you all are worthy of the our precious powers. If you pass each test, the powers are yours, if not, then you and your realm are doomed.” “I’m up for a challenge, let’s do it!” Sub-Zero exclaimed. “Very well, then,” said Queen J’Zonia. “Kai, Tanya, make the necessary preparations.” The first of the tests was an intergalactic chess game between Lord Rayden and the Lagronite chess master, Loco. It was held in a large room just down the hall from the throne room. On the left side of the room, Lagronite spectators were gathered to watch their champion. Lord Rayden’s friends who watched nervously occupied the right side. The champion hit Rayden hard with the first move, taking away three of his pieces.
Lord Rayden retaliated by setting up a block of some kind with his rook, thus disabling Loco from taking some more of his pieces. Loco found some kind of way to move around it though, for he took three more of Rayden’s pieces. “Talk about being between a rock and a hard place,” Sonya said. “He can’t even make a single move!” Lord Rayden knew he was losing. He also knew that this victory was crucial in order to obtain the sacred powers of the Lagronites. He was thinking nervously when he saw it. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he was not hallucinating. He was not daydreaming though it was there. He then took advantage of his discovery by taking his king and capturing Loco’s queen and winning the game. Everyone was curious as to how he did it, even Loco. “How in the world did you pull that off, outsider?” Loco asked mystified. “You see, friend, you messed yourself up when you took most of my pieces,” Lord Rayden explained. “You left the way wide open for me to take my king and capture your queen.”
“Ingenious!” Loco exclaimed. “In all my years of playing chess, I never would have thought of that move! I am honored to have been beaten with such a clever move!” The Lagronite extended his hand out to shake the Thunder god’s, who accepted. “Earth, ten points, Lagron, five!” Sub-Zero said. The next contest was a horseback race of sorts, held in an arena just outside of the palace. Stryker and Kabal were to race against five of Queen J’Zonia’s best horseback riders. At the starting line, Queen J’Zonia announced, “The participants will all race five times around the track. Whoever comes in first at the finish line on the fifth go-round will be the winner. Let the games begin!” As Stryker got on his horse, Kabal stopped him. “Kurtis, I have this little problem with horses,” he whispered. “The last time I rode a horse, I was in the fifth grade!” “You have got to be kidding me, man!” Stryker exclaimed.
Nightwolf then approached them. “You guys got a problem or something?” he asked. “Yeah, Kabal here hasn’t rode a horse in years!” Stryker exclaimed again. “Well it’s too late to pull out now, pal,” Nightwolf said. “You’re just going to have to do the best you can.” Kabal took a big swallow in his throat and climbed on top of the horse. Kai escorted the queen back to her seat as Tanya came to the starting line with some kind of gun. “Riders, take your marks!” she exclaimed as she held the gun high. “Ready, set GO!” She shot a blue flare into the sky and flipped out of the way of the charging horses. All the horses had departed except Kabal’s. The masked loner looked on as the others neared the halfway point. “Come on, man!” Kabal pleaded with the horse. “Our realm’s fate depends on me winning, now GO!” He kicked the horse hard in his side and the horse responded by neighing loudly and taking off. The speed of the animal nearly knocked Kabal off but the warrior gained some momentum and pulled himself back on the horse.
He smiled but then realized he had pulled himself backward on the horse. “Oh, hell,” he said as the horse caught up with the others. Stryker, who was an accomplished rider, looked at his best friend as he caught up with him. “What are you doing, man?” he asked in desperation. “I don’t even know myself!” Kabal shouted as the animal continued racing wildly. The other riders laughed hysterically as they saw Kabal struggling to fix himself right on the horse. Liu Kang and the others watched the race nervously as Lord Rayden approached them. “So, how are they holding up?” the Thunder god asked. “Not good,” Sub-Zero answered as he pointed out Kabal’s predicament to their leader. “Ain’t that a….,” Rayden started before he was cut off by Kitana. “Don’t say it,” Kitana said. Queen J’Zonia looked on as Tanya brought her something to drink.
“These Earth people are indeed strange, ain’t they, my beloved Queen?” she asked as she handed over the drink. “Yes, they are my child,” the queen agreed. “But they are the most courageous and caring people I have ever seen in my 20,000 years of living.” “I do see what you mean,” Kai said as he approached them. “They are willing to go to any lengths to save their realm. That is truly courageous as well as caring.” As the riders finished the fourth lap, Kabal was still struggling on his horse. As he started on the fifth lap, he thought, “Here I am dangling like a worm on a hook and people’s lives are at stake! Who the hell do I think I am?” He then used all of his strength to flip over and take control of the horse. He yanked the reins hard and passed the first of the Lagronite riders, then the second.
As he passed the third and fourth riders, he caught up with Stryker. “Well, well,” Stryker said happily. “Now you’re getting it!” “Let’s do this, buddy!” Kabal shouted. Kabal yanked hard on the reins again and passed the final Lagronite rider. Stryker did the same and turned around and exclaimed, “Don’t take this personal now, you hear!” Both men then crossed the finish line at the same time. They turned and looked at each other, smiled, and shook hands while still riding. The Earth warriors cheered and shouted for joy as Kabal and Stryker climbed off their horses. Lord Rayden and the others joined the victors and they all celebrated. “You two have just won a horseback race, Kabal and Kurtis Stryker, what are you going to do next?” Nightwolf asked jokingly. “We’re gonna save Earth realm!” both men shouted. As the celebration continued, Queen J’Zonia rose from her seat and announced, “Well done, friends. You may now advance to the final test. I will see you all in the tournament room. Tanya, prepare Liu Kang.”
Liu Kang seemed a little nervous as Tanya led him away but shook it off fast. Back in Hindpar, Shinook was meddling with the captured Elders in the scepter again. “So you think your mighty Thunder god and his weaklings will get the powers and save the day, huh?” he asked teasingly. “Well, you’re wrong, dead wrong!” Before he could burst out in laughter, Reiko entered the room. “Sir, I’ve got great news! I have two people here that may be of some use to you!” he shouted with enthusiasm. “May I present the sorcerer Quan Chi and his personal bodyguard, Noob Saibot.” Two men entered the throne room. The first had a pale face, dressed in black and green, and wore shoulder pads that were covered with spikes. The next man was dressed in a traditional Lin Kuei ninja garb but was black from head to toe.
“It gives me great honor to finally meet you, Shinook,” Quan Chi greeted. “The much debated Quan Chi, aye,” Shinook replied. “So what of your bodyguard? Does he not know how to pay homage to a god?” “Well, sir, he is not too big on words,” Quan Chi stated. “When I first tried to employ his services, he defied me so I had no choice but to cut out his tongue and make him my slave.” “Impressive,” Shinook said. “But what are your intentions here. Are you here to serve or to defy me and take over my empire?” “No sir,” Quan Chi answered. “Reiko said you needed help in taking down your son and his mortal friends. I am here to serve.” “Well what I need you to do first is to take some of my cyber ninjas and intercept Lord Rayden and his warriors before they acquire the Lagronitic powers.” “Consider it done, sir,” Quan Chi assured. “Noob, let’s go!” The dark ninja bowed in submission and accompanied his master out the door.
“Now there goes someone who may just get results,” said Reiko. “For his sake and yours, I hope you’re right!” Shinook mused. A host of Lagronite spectators joined the Earth realm warriors in the tournament room as they anticipated the final test. “Any ideas on how this test will go?” Sonya asked Rayden. “None whatsoever,” he answered. “It looks as if Liu is going to have to fight someone, though.” “How can he fight without his chi, Rayden?” Johnny asked. “You’d be surprised at the things mortals and non-mortals can accomplish without their chi. Look at what happened in the two previous tests.” “I suppose you are right, Thunder god,” Johnny accepted. “I know I’m right,” Lord Rayden joked. A horn sounded and the doors to the room opened as Liu Kang made his entrance. An announcer in a booth high above the room then said, “Making his way to the ring and fighting from the realm of Earth, LIU KANG!” Lord Rayden and his friends cheered their fellow Defender on as he did his signature exercises before a fight.
The announcer then said, “And his opponent, fighting from the realm of Lagron, KAI OF CURLY!” Kai entered the tournament room and the ovation for him was so great that it almost made the Defenders deaf. Kai entered the oval ring and bowed to Liu and he in turn did the same. “Before we fight, I’d just like to say I can appreciate what you are doing for your realm,” Kai said. “Thank you,” Liu Kang said. “May the best fighter win.” A loud bell rang and the fight commenced. Kai tried a high kick towards Liu’s chin but Kang sidestepped out of the way. Liu Kang then went for a sweep but Kai flipped out of the way. “Not bad, man,” Liu said. “Thanks,” Kai accepted. “My father taught me that trick.” Kai then connected with a crescent kick and Liu stumbled to the ground. Liu responded with a pop kick that took Kai down to the ground. Both men then performed karate leaps off the ground at the same time.
They then performed a series of punches and blocks on each other. Kai then went for a side kick but Liu sidestepped out of the way again. Kang then charged Kai and flipped him over with his hands and foot. Kai tried to regain his balance but Liu ran and put him in an arm lock. Kai cried for a moment before shouting, “OK, OK! You win, pal, I submit!” Liu released the Lagronite and helped him to his feet. “I would demand a rematch but seeing that you are pressed for time, I’ll decline till another day,” Kai said as he shook Liu’s hand. “The winner of this fight as a result of submission, LIU KANG!” the announcer exclaimed. Tanya came and escorted Kai out of the ring. He gave a final thumbs up to Liu Kang as he departed. As the Earth warriors came to congratulate their comrade, Queen J’Zonia entered the tournament room. “You have successfully completed the three tests, friends,” she congratulated. “You are now ready to receive your Lagronitic Animalities. Everyone who is of this planet leave so that I may conduct this ceremony in private. Lord Rayden, you and your warriors form a circle around the ring.”
The Earth warriors did so and Queen J’Zonia stepped in the center of the ring. She held one hand high and a large spherical object lowered down from the ceiling. “Wow!” Johnny whispered to Sonya. “That’s a pretty big disco ball!” Sonya hit him in the abdomen and gave a sigh of disapproval. The object landed in the arms of Queen J’Zonia, who said, “Hold hands, close your eyes, and believe in the power of Lagron.” The Defenders all did as they were told and when the queen observed it, she started the ceremony. “By the powers invested in me by the lords of this mighty planet, I now bestow upon you the Animalities of Lagron!” she shouted. Her eyes turned snow white and the spherical object began to spin in her hand. The room went completely dark and Sub-Zero said, “I’m afraid of the dark.” The others responded with shut ups and be quiets.
The room lit up almost instantly as bright white light began to pour from the still spinning spherical object. Queen J’Zonia began some kind of chant and the light flowed through the bodies of Rayden and the others. This went on for about five minutes until the spherical object split into ten pieces. Each piece had a decoration of an animal on it and floated until it attached itself to the chests of Nightwolf, Jax, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, Kabal, Stryker, Kitana, Sonya, Liu Kang and Lord Rayden. As the pieces attached to the Earth warrior’s bodies, their bodies began to glow and then the light grew its brightest for a brief moment and then disappeared. The Earth realm warriors opened their eyes and noticed that their previous outfits had been replaced with multi-colored uniforms with different animal emblems in the chest area. As they marveled over their newfound powers, Queen J’Zonia said, “This is merely a stepping stone in truly receiving all of what we have to offer. You can now use the powers of the beast to go into the jungle tomorrow and obtain the full Lagronite resources.”
She then approached them one by one to explain the nature of their Animalities. “Lord Rayden, once you held power as the Eagle and the Turtle, but now you possess even greater power as the almighty Griffin!” she said touching Rayden’s emblem. She then moved to Liu Kang. “Liu Kang, warrior forged in fire, courageous fighter for the realm of Earth. It seemed only right that your previous Animality was the Dragon. But now, since you have risen from the ashes, you now possess the powers of the mystical Phoenix!” she exclaimed holding Liu’s shoulder. She then went in front of Johnny and Sonya and said, “Sonya Blade, virtuous as well as beautiful, the Hawk represents all in life you ever wanted to be. And you Johnny, Johnny, what is the matter?” “With all due respect, Queen J’Zonia, couldn’t you have found me a better animal than the Kangaroo?” Johnny asked looking at his emblem sadly. “I mean it totally messes up my image.”
“The Kangaroo is mischievous as well as heroic, Johnny Cage,” Queen J’Zonia explained. “Somehow it seemed to suit you. His powers are yours to command forever.” “Well, OK, Queen, I’ll take your word for it,” Johnny said reluctantly. She then went to Kabal and Stryker. “For two men who are big on words, fights, and egos, the animals designated for you were the Rhinoceros and the Tyrannosaur.” “I thought the Tyrannosaur represented evil,” Stryker said looking at his emblem. “After all, they did used to go around and eat up all the other dinosaurs.” “On Lagron, even animals are forgiven for their sins, Kurtis,” Queen J’Zonia replied. She approached Nightwolf and Jax thereafter. “You two men are worlds apart just as your designated animals, the Wolf and the Lion, are apart,” she stated. “Nightwolf is the Wolf,” Nightwolf said. “That has a nice ring to it.” She came to Sub-Zero next. “Sub-Zero, lord of the ice, fierce fighter and diligent worker for the Earth realm, you command the Polar Bear.” The ice ninja smiled with approval as the queen made her way towards Kitana.
“Princess Kitana, daughter of Jerrod and Sindel and sole heir to the throne of Edenia, you command the nobility and just ways of the Falcon,” Queen J’Zonia said. “So where do we go from here?” Lord Rayden asked. Queen J’Zonia answered, “Go now and sleep in the rooms of my grand palace. Tomorrow, you will awake and obtain the rest of the resources which were promised to you.” The Earth realm warriors bowed in respect and left the presence of Queen J’Zonia. Johnny awoke in the middle of the night. He then turned over and said, “Hey, Sonya, I just had the most amazing dream. I was-Sonya, Sonya?” He looked over at the bed just opposite his and saw that Sonya was nowhere to be found. He got up abruptly, slipped on a robe and slippers, and was started out the door when he saw a familiar shape on the balcony to the room. He walked out onto the balcony and found Sonya perched on a rail staring out into the night sky.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Johnny asked as he wrapped his arms around her. “I was just thinking what all we are putting on the line tomorrow,” Sonya answered. “Our lives, the lives of the people on Earth, and the very planet itself. I-I just don’t how to handle it with these new powers.” “Believe in yourself, babe, and believe in all of us as a team,” Johnny said. “I tried depending on someone once,” Sonya replied. “I thought he could get the job done and because of my hesitation, his life was taken.” “Well, then, let the power of our love keep you going,” Johnny said. He turned her around to him and the two shared a brief kiss. He led her back into the room and to her bed. Lord Rayden met his friends in front of the palace gate early the next morning. They were well rested, dressed in their Lagronite garbs, and ready to go. “We have a great task to accomplish today,” Lord Rayden began. “First, we have to brave the jungle and obtain the rest of the Lagronitic powers. Next, we have to locate Shinook’s home base, free our Elders, and beat those damned bastards in battle! Let’s go!”
The warriors all let out a battle cry and then descended into the Lagron jungle. The jungle was vast and full of many small creatures and strange looking plant-life. Along the way, Nightwolf collected samples of water, soil, and a few plants from the jungle. “What the hell are you gonna do with all that mess?” Jax asked curiously. “I want to run some tests and make comparisons with samples from our planet,” Nightwolf answered. “Man, you need to get out of the jungle with that science jazz, bro,” Jax said. “Oh, come on, man,” Nightwolf protested. “This is damn good research.” The Defenders of the Realm traveled through the jungle most of the day. The journey was harsh as well as tiring. Finally, it seemed as if they reached a turning point when they arrived in front of an ancient temple. “I think this may be it, people,” Lord Rayden announced. “Kai and Tanya said to look for an old temple.”
“Is there some kind of ceremony we have to perform or something?” Liu Kang asked. “No, they said we would have stand here and wait.” “Wait?” Johnny asked. “Wait for what?” The Earth warriors’ attention was grabbed when a huge portal opened in front of the temple. “OK, everyone, get ready, I think this is it,” Lord Rayden. To their surprise, a battalion of cyber ninjas came through and the sorcerer, Quan Chi, led them. “What the hell is going on?” Liu Kang asked angrily. “I’ll tell you what is going on,” Quan Chi quipped. “We’re about to kill you and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it!” “Oh yeah?” Rayden asked mischievously. “Animals of Lagron-UNITE! The Griffin!” The Thunder god’s body began to glow iridescent as he got into a fighting stance.” “Whoa, cool, man!” Liu Kang shouted. “The Phoenix!” His body glowed as well as he got into a fighting stance.
“The Falcon!” Kitana exclaimed. “The Hawk!” Sonya yelled. Johnny smiled and shouted, “The Kangaroo!” “The Lion!” Jax screamed. “The Wolf!” Nightwolf yelled. Kabal and Stryker touched fists and shouted together, “The Rhinoceros and the Tyrannosaur!” Sub-Zero got into his stance and then exclaimed, “The Polar Bear!” They all glowed for brief moment and stood their ground. “Well, well, it seems you have acquired the Lagronitic powers,” Quan Chi quipped again. “No matter, though, FIGHT!” The cyber ninjas charged at the Defenders and a full scale battled ensued. Liu Kang took down the first of the cyber ninjas with a Flying Kick. Two cyber ninjas ran towards Lord Rayden. He flipped over them and pulled them down to the ground. Sonya punched a cyber ninja into three others. “Whoa, I don’t know my own strength now,” she joked. Kabal performed a head scissors on a cyber ninja, bringing him down to the ground. Stryker then ran towards him. Kabal caught his friend and threw him towards four advancing cyber ninjas.
Performing a side Bicycle Kick, he shouted, “One, two, three, four!” as he knocked them all down. Sub-Zero shot an ice blast at three cyber ninjas. Instead of freezing the cyber ninjas, the blast morphed into an ice net and covered the villains, making it impossible for them to escape. Kitana knocked a cyber ninja into a tree that was five feet away. She then ran to the ninja’s aid, helped him up and said, “You’re kinda cute. Here’s something to remember me by!” She kissed him on the cheek and his body grew skinnier until finally it exploded. Rayden then approached her and said, “Very nicely done, Princess.” “Thanks!” Kitana accepted as she proceeded to reverse somersault kick a cyber ninja that was behind her. Johnny backed himself into a tree and let four cyber ninjas corner him there. “So you guys think you got me, huh?” he asked. “Well try this on for size! Lagron Whirling Sweep!”
Johnny dropped to the ground and spun 360°, sweeping all of the cyber ninjas except one. This cyber had managed to flip out of the way. “Oh, you think you’re bad now, huh?” Johnny asked. “Man, get out of my face!” He shot an Orb blast that flipped the ninja all the way to the ground, inducing unconsciousness. Jax grabbed two ninjas and banged their bodies together five times before dropping them back to the ground. “Gotcha!” he quipped as he grabbed two more and did the same. Nightwolf fought his way to Quan Chi, who was angrily observing all the action. “Can’t come all this way and not fight, my man,” Nightwolf said as he drew his mystic bow and arrows. “You are not even worth fighting, imbecile!” Quan Chi replied angrily. “Sektor!” Another portal opened and a red cyborg, similar to Cyrax and Smoke, flipped out and landed a kick to Nightwolf’s midsection.
Nightwolf tried to shoot Sektor but the cyborg shot a clamp from his belly and snatched away his bow. The shaman charged at Sektor, who used the clamp to flip Nightwolf over him. Nightwolf got up, ran up a nearby tree, and waited on a branch. Sektor shot the clamp up into the tree and Nightwolf jumped from branch to branch dodging it. “Stop fooling around and FINISH HIM!” Quan Chi exclaimed angrily. “Yes, master,” Sektor replied. “Prepare to be terminated, Earth mortal.” He retracted the clamp into his belly and held up an arm. A small cannon rose from his forearm and he shouted, “Fire!” Pure flame fired from the cannon and up into the tree. Nightwolf dodged the flame shot as best he could but was burned on the arm. The shaman cried out in agony as his mystical axe appeared in his hands.
He soared headfirst out of the burning tree with the axe clenched in both hands. Lightning struck the mystical axe as he hit Sektor with it. The lightning coursed through Sektor’s body, thus vaporizing him. Nightwolf swung the axe in his hand and then pointed it at Quan Chi. “You’re next, pal,” he said. He began to walk towards the sorcerer but Liu Kang stopped him. “Allow me, friend,” Liu Kang said. “By all means,” Nightwolf replied holding out his hands towards Quan Chi. Liu Kang approached Quan Chi, bowed, clapped his hands, and a flaming sword appeared in his hands. “Quite impressive, Liu Kang,” Quan Chi said with approval. “You come prepared, but that does not mean you are going to win!” He snapped his fingers and the spikes on his forearm pads grew long as daggers. The two then engaged in Weapons Kombat. Liu hit his sword against Quan Chi’s spikes repeatedly before Quan Chi kicked his sword out of his hands and into the air.
Liu simply smiled, flipped into the air, caught his sword, and descended back towards the ground. As he came back down he shouted, “Lagron Shadow Charge Kick!” He executed a kick similar to Johnny’s, only it was thrown in a descending manner and with both legs. Quan Chi was knocked to the ground. He did a quick karate leap off the ground and exclaimed angrily, “You fool! We will continue this in Hindpar! Cyber ninjas, LET’S GO!” He opened a third portal, flipped back into it, and the cyber ninjas ran in behind him. The portal closed and the Defenders got into their trademark victory poses. “Shinook just got a taste of the ass-whooping that’s a-coming to ‘em!” Jax shouted. “We’re more powerful than ever before!” Liu Kang exclaimed. “That bastard won’t stand a chance!”
“Calm down you all, and listen!” Rayden ordered. A low whistle, coming from the temple, filled the whole area. Bright, white light illuminated the decrepit structure and circled the Earth realm warriors and their leader. From opposite sides of the temple, white representations of the ten Lagronitic animals ascended towards the Defenders. Each representation flowed into the body of its designated warrior. Queen J’Zonia’s face then appeared before them. “Congratulations, my friends,” she said. “You have now acquired all you need and more to take down your enemies. I wish you luck in your mission.” As quickly as it had came, her face then disappeared. “We did it!” Sonya shouted. “We now have the power teleport to other realms without portals, Lord Rayden!” Nightwolf informed. “Well, then so be it, let’s go!” Lord Rayden shouted. They all joined hands and the same bluish energy ball that had brought them there covered them again and took them away. Kai and Tanya observed all that had transpired from inside the temple. They held hands and whispered, “Good luck, you all!”
