Mortal Kombat Millennium
Round 3 By: Jeremy J. Banks

Quan Chi made it back to Hindpar enraged. He stormed into the throne room and paraded around in a circle before speaking his peace. “Why did you not tell me that they had acquired the Lagronitic powers!” he demanded. “We got our asses kicked!” “It was your job to make sure that they did not acquire the powers!” Shinook shouted back. “If they have them, then you failed me!” “We made it there as soon as we could, dammit!” Quan Chi exclaimed. “How were we supposed to know, old man, huh? How in the hell were we supposed to know?” “Don’t you raise your voice in my castle!” Shinook demanded. “I’ll destroy you in a split second!” “I’ll be damned,” Quan Chi said in a low tone. “You may kill me, but I’m not going down without a fight.” Reiko then entered the room and shouted, “Enough of this mess! Now, sir, our radar shows a large object heading towards here. It’s probably Rayden and his mortals. So the best thing for you two to do is to get your heads out of your asses and prepare for battle!”

“He’s right, you know,” Quan Chi agreed. “Get Komodai and his squad down here!” Shinook ordered. “Tell them to use their Animalities to keep my son and his fearsome friends busy!” “Yes sir!” Reiko agreed. “We should just wait here and be patient,” Shinook said to Quan Chi. “My lord, let me prove myself against Liu Kang,” Quan Chi said solemnly. “He humiliated me on Lagron. I want my revenge!” “And you shall have it,” Shinook assured. “But I‘m not about to send you into battle unprepared and have you let me down again. “Go get Noob Saibot and Ermac. Tell them to go intercept Rayden should Komodai fail me.” “Yes, my lord,” Quan Chi said. As he left the throne room, Shinook picked up the Scepter of Gon Gou Lye. “They could have all the powers in the universe,” he whispered. “They still are going to have to go through me!” The blue energy ball circled the planet for a moment then landed just outside one of its many villages.

The Defenders of the Realm wasted no time getting into their fighting stances but observed that all was quiet. “Pretty quiet, man,” Jax said. “Yeah, a little too quiet,” Sub-Zero said. “Shinook’s base has to be around here somewhere, Lord Rayden,” Liu Kang said. “We should find it.” “Good thinking, Liu,” Rayden said. “Let’s go! The millennium is less than two hours away!” They started towards the village when Komodai and a squad of his Reptiles stormed from the village. “In order to get to Shinook and your precious gods, you must first face uss!” Komodai shouted. “Reptiles, show your true selves!” The lizard ninja’s army removed their masks to reveal their slimy reptilian features. They did not stop there, though. Their uniforms then disintegrated and they grew fifteen feet long. An army of giant lizards now surrounded the Defenders. Komodai let out an evil chuckle and said, “What are you gonna do now, foolss!” He shed his uniform, grew twenty feet, and three wicked-looking horns appeared on his forehead.

“Oh, how gross can you get!” Sonya exclaimed. “Let’s do it!” Lord Rayden shouted. “Animality of the Griffin!” “Animality of the Phoenix!” Liu shouted. “Animality of the Falcon!” Kitana yelled. “Animality of the…. Kangaroo!” Johnny shouted reluctantly. “Animality of the Hawk!” Sonya exclaimed. “Animality of the Lion!” Jax shouted. “Animality of the Polar Bear!” Sub-Zero yelled. “Animality of the Wolf!” Nightwolf shouted. “Animalities of the Rhinoceros and the Tyrannosaur!” Kabal and Stryker screamed together. The Earth warriors formed a circle, extended their fists from their bodies, and ascended into the air. Lord Rayden morphed into the Griffin while Liu morphed into the Phoenix. Sonya and Kitana transformed into the Hawk and the Falcon. Kabal and Stryker metamorphosed into the Rhinoceros and the Tyrannosaur and Nightwolf morphed into the Wolf. Sub-Zero, Johnny, and Jax all became the Animalities of the Polar Bear, the Kangaroo, and the Lion.

The Griffin snorted and then looked at the Horned Lizard and said, “You were saying, pal.” The Horned Lizard grew agitated and said, “Retreat to the damn village! Destroy everything in sight!” The other giant Lizards scampered towards the village followed by their leader. “After them at once!” the Griffin shouted. “Wait a minute, man,” the Phoenix said. “That is a big village! Let’s split up and catch ‘em by surprise!” “Damn, boy!” the Griffin exclaimed. “You’ve been coming up with good ideas all day! OK, animals, split up and take those slimy bastards out!” The animals all separated and descended into the heart of the village. The Lizards were destroying the village and terrorizing its people. The Hawk and the Falcon flew over the village and observed the action. “We have to stop this!” the Hawk pleaded. “Hmm, I’ve got an idea!” the Falcon said. “Follow my lead!” The Falcon flew down and bit down on a Lizard’s tail with her beak and flew off with the Lizard. The Hawk whispered, “Cool!” and proceeded to do the same except she grabbed onto a Lizard’s back with her talons.

The fowls flew from the city and dropped the Lizards in the lake behind the city. The Lizards came out of the water, morphed into their original selves, and screamed curses at the birds. The fowls slapped their wings together and flew back to the city. The Polar Bear mauled a Lizard into one of the village houses and two more Lizards attacked him from behind. The Rhinoceros then charged into the two Lizards, knocking the out completely. He then turned to the Polar Bear and said, “Even though we’re animals, I still got your back!” “No time to talk now, more Reptiles on the way!” the Polar Bear shouted. They then began fighting off more Lizards as they poured in. The Tyrannosaur snatched up Lizards one by one with his snout and tossed them all over the village. The Horned Lizard observed this and came up to him. “Why do you do this?” the Horned Lizard asked. “You are Reptile just like us!” “You’re wrong, moron!” the Tyrannosaur replied. “This is just my Animality! I’m all human!” The Horned Lizard leaped at the Tyrannosaur who caught him in his jaw and hurled him into the dilapidated village temple.

The Kangaroo was on the run from five Lizards. He the turned around and said, “You guys just don’t know when to quit, do you! Shadow Bounce!” He leaped high into the air and bounced off their heads rendering them all unconscious. The Phoenix was flying over the village when three Lizards leaped out of nowhere and brought him down. He managed to fight one of them off by slapping him with his wing. All of a sudden, a howl came from behind them. The Lizards ceased their assault and turned around. The Wolf charged one of the Lizards, clawed into his rough hide, and bit him on the snout. The Lizard cried out in pain and ran away. The Phoenix then kicked away the last Lizard with both feet. “You OK, pal?” The Wolf asked. “Yeah, I’m fine,” the Phoenix replied. “I’m just a little shaken up.” The Horned Lizard bit down on the Tyrannosaur’s tail with all his meager power. The Tyrannosaur laughed and said, “Is that all you got?” He then swung his tail 360° and flung the Horned Lizard down again.

The Horned Lizard rose and morphed back into Komodai. “I’ve had enough of this!” he exclaimed. “Do you have the balls to fight me as yourself, mortal?” “Sure, I do,” answered the Tyrannosaur. “Return to human form!” He transformed into Kurtis Stryker and said, “How do you like me now?” Komodai sped past Stryker and performed an Elbow Attack. Stryker fell to the ground and Komodai kicked him in the stomach. Stryker regained balance and crescent kicked his enemy. Komodai retaliated with a spinning forearm but Stryker caught him and slammed him on the ground. The lizard ninja did a karate leap off the ground and turned invisible. “Can’t fight what you can’t see!” he said evilly. Stryker felt a punch to the face and a kick to the chest. He then grunted as the lizard ninja, who was still invisible, landed multiple kicks in his midsection. He felt one last kick in his face and he rolled over. He heard the sound of someone flipping and then heard Komodai say, “And now I finish you!”

A shot of Acid Spit came out of nowhere and careened towards Stryker. The ex-cop stood on one knee and bowed his head. His hands started glowing red and the Acid Spit stopped and hit the invisible Reptile. Komodai writhed in pain as he turned back opaque and held up what remained of his severed arm. Stryker ran, swept him, and locked his head in his arms. “Let me show you how we on Earth feel about disappearing acts!” he whispered. He then snapped the Reptile’s neck, rose to his feet and left, limping slightly. The Griffin had made it halfway to the castle when he noticed four invisible Lizards following him from below. He landed and then shouted, “Come and get some!” The Lizards reappeared and rushed him. He took one out with a Red Mouth Fireball. The other three were able advance on and overwhelm him. A shriek came from the air and a Hydra descended towards the area where they were fighting.

Two of the Hydra’s heads grabbed two of the Lizards and melted them in their mouths. The Griffin then grabbed the last Lizard’s feet with its talons and flipped him over. The Griffin morphed into Lord Rayden and asked, “Who are you?” “That’s very cold, boy,” the middle Hydra head said. “You don’t even recognize your own flesh and blood.” The Hydra then transformed into none other than Shao Kahn. A smile came across Lord Rayden’s face as Kahn said, “Don’t start that sentimental crap, son. I’m only here because I thought about what you said and came to a conclusion.” “What conclusion was that?” Rayden asked. “If I can’t destroy Earth realm, no one can!” “Same old big brother,” Lord Rayden said shaking his head. “Put it there, brother!” The Thunder god then extended his hand and the former Emperor shook it. They then started towards their father’s castle.

Seven of the animals gathered in the middle of the village. They all morphed back into their original forms. “Looks like we win,” Sub-Zero said. “Where is Stryker, Jax, and Rayden?” Kitana asked. “No telling,” Sonya said. “You can’t take those guys anywhere.” “Have all the Lizards been dealt with?” Liu Kang asked. “I honestly don’t know,” Nightwolf said. “Hey, let’s look around for the others. Stryker was just about to join them when two more Lizards cornered him. “Easy, guys,” he said. “Let me become the Tyrannosaur again so it can be a fair fight.” “I think not, mortal,” one of the Lizards replied. Before they could attack, the Lion pounced from behind Stryker, grabbed one Lizard’s tail with his mouth and the other with his paw. He then said, “Gotcha! Hey, cop, don’t say I was never there for you.” He then used his strength to slam the two Lizards together. The Lion morphed into Jax and said, “Everybody else is over there. Shall we?” Stryker nodded and the two met up with the other Defenders.

“I think I saw Rayden flying towards the castle,” Stryker said. “Some of us should stay here in case anymore of those Lizards show up and the rest can go find Rayden.” “Well, I am going,” Liu informed. “I have a little unfinished business with Quan Chi. Come go with me, Johnny, Kabal, and Sub-Zero.” The four men started off and Sonya said, “It’s just like them to try and hog all the action. Come on, you all, let’s round up the already unconscious Reptiles!” Nightwolf, Kitana, Jax, and Stryker all followed her towards the downed enemies. Rayden and Kahn made their way through the front entrance and were met by a host of red ninjas. “Just like old times, aye,” Kahn said. Two red ninjas ran towards Kahn. He performed an air roundhouse kick on one and hit the other with the Soulhammer. Lord Rayden punched one red ninja into the wall and asked, “And just what are you doing with that?” “Oh, come on, Thunder god,” Kahn protested. “It’s only a weapon now. I can’t take any souls with it. Honest!”

“Oh, all right,” Rayden said reluctantly as he back kicked another ninja. The Thunder god then slid across the floor, went through a red ninja’s legs, and landed a groin kick therein. “Not bad, not bad,” Kahn approved. “But watch this!” He grabbed a red ninja by his shoulders, flipped over him, and slung him to the ground. More red ninjas poured in as Lord Rayden drew a weapon of his own, a large mallet. Liu and the others burst in just as he took a swing at two red ninjas. “Hey, Rayden, and Kahn?” Liu asked mystified. “Help is here.” “Oh, thank you Lord,” Rayden breathed. “Why don’t you all be good lads and clean up this mess for us. We have to go find a rat that needs to be exterminated!” He and Kahn batted away ninjas with their weapons and made their way up the stairs leading towards the throne room. Once the last red ninja was taken care of, Liu and the others started upstairs. Halfway up the staircase, they met Ermac, without mask. “You don’t really think I’m gonna let you fools pass, now do you?”

“Oh yes you will!” Johnny yelled as he Shadow kicked the leader of the red ninjas down. “Go on! I’ll take care of this slime.” As Ermac rose to his feet, Johnny slipped on a pair of sunglasses and drew a medieval sword. Ermac drew two long daggers from his boots and screamed, “Let’s do it, fool! If I almost took down your woman, I know I can take you down, too!” The actor and the red ninja commenced a sword fight right there on the stairway. Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, and Kabal made it to the second floor of the castle. There was a long hallway and many doors leading to a great, many rooms. “Which one?” Sub-Zero asked. “Let’s just pick one and move!” Kabal said bursting into one. “I despise impulsive people,” Sub-Zero said. Noob Saibot emerged from one of the paintings hanging in the hallway. “I’m glad it’s not really dark up here,” Liu Kang said. “Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to see him to fight!”

“It’s not the dark you should be worried about,” said Quan Chi from the small portal that opened behind Liu Kang. “It’s me!” He pulled Liu inside the portal and it disappeared. Sub-Zero sighed and said, “I guess that just leaves you and me, friend.” Noob Saibot shot a projectile at Sub-Zero. When it hit the ice ninja’s arm, he was shocked to discover that it was steaming hot black oil. “No, no, no,” Sub-Zero chastised waving his finger. “Where I come from, we use ice!” He shot an Ice blast at Noob Saibot, who countered it with a shield he had made out of black oil. “OK, so like weapons, huh,” Sub-Zero said drawing out a scimitar made of pure ice. “Well, let’s see how you like this one!” Kabal looked around the room, which reminded him of the church he used to attend when he was a small boy. “What is this place?” he asked stupefied. “A sanctuary, my son,” said a figure at the altar. The many candles in the room then mysteriously lit themselves and the figure turned out to be Reiko.

“It is my job to save your soul from the torment it has underwent,” he continued. “Just how do you plan to pull that one off?” Kabal asked scornfully. Reiko fired several Energy stars at Kabal, causing him to stumble over on one of the benches. “By simply taking your miserable life,” Reiko replied. Liu shook his head and surveyed his surroundings. He was in a place surrounded by many portals and rock formations. “I know this place!” he shouted. “This is…!” “Limbo,” Quan Chi finished from a rock just opposite of the one Liu was perched on. “You are nothing. So why not kill nothing in nowhere.” Liu jumped off the ground drew his flaming sword and shouted, “Come on! Since you see nothing, why don’t you come kill nothing!” Quan Chi grinned evilly, drew a spiked club and leaped over onto the rock. Shinook waited patiently as his two sons burst into his throne room. “So I see you have chosen to die like a coward as well, Shao,” Shinook said. “Better to die on our feet than live on our knees, Dad!” Lord Rayden sneered.

“You really should have finished this when you had the chance, Father,” Shao Kahn said solemnly. “There is no chance in Hell of you defeating both of us.” “Like Hell there isn’t!” Shinook yelled. He then held the Scepter high and its handle grew to the size of a bo staff. The Thunder god and the former Emperor drew their weapons as well. The fallen Elder somersaulted from his throne and began to Kombat with his sons. Ermac and Johnny grew more tired by the minute as they continued the fight. Using his daggers as leverage, the red ninja flipped himself up onto the staircase rails. Looking to take advantage, Johnny swiped at his feet first but was unsuccessful. They continued their sword fight until Ermac flipped off the rails towards the wall behind Johnny. He pushed himself off the wall with one foot and kicked Johnny in the face with the other. The actor fell halfway down the steps and the red ninja ran after him hysterically.

Every time Sub-Zero swung at Noob Saibot, his scimitar connected with Saibot’s oil shield. The ice ninja swung a final time and then threw his weapon to the ground. He side kicked his adversary into the wall. To his surprise, the black ninja melted into the wall and shot back out as a large black oil torpedo. The torpedo knocked Sub-Zero to the ground, careened off the wall, and melted back into Noob Saibot. Reiko used almost everything he could get hands on against Kabal. Chairs, candles, torches, and even tapestries were at his disposal. Kabal countered all of these projectiles by moving out of the way. Once he was out of “weaponry,” Kabal saw his chance. He did a quick Web Spin on Reiko and hit him with an uppercut. The lick took him as high as the ceiling and caused him fall hard on his face. Liu Kang could not overpower Quan Chi with his flaming sword, nor could Quan Chi overpower him with the spiked club. After minutes of sword/club fighting, Quan Chi knocked Liu over to another rock with a roundhouse kick. Liu, being forever resilient, jumped right back over and connected with a short Bicycle kick.

Rayden and Shao Kahn took turns fighting their father. When one was knocked back, the other rushed in immediately. The mallet and the Soulhammer were just as strong as the scepter, so they would not have to worry about their father breaking them. Shinook kicked Rayden in the abdomen and knocked him into Kahn. “This is not working, Rayden!” Kahn pleaded with his brother. “Let’s take him at the same time!” The brothers charged at their father with all their might and overwhelmed him. Shinook responded by extending the scepter out in front of him with both arms, flipping forward over it and kicking both of his sons down. The fallen Elder then back-flipped onto his throne and out the window onto the balcony behind it. Shao Kahn and Rayden rose to their feet and looked into each other’s eyes. “Where’d he go?” they both asked. “Out here, fools!” Shinook screamed from the balcony. Kahn performed a Shadow cannonball out the window and Rayden did a Body Launch out of the window.

The father and his offspring continued their battle on the balcony. Ermac pursued Johnny all the way down the staircase to the floor where he and the others had dealt with Ermac’s squad of red ninjas. Ermac ran after him until Johnny found his sword and the pair restarted their fight. Ermac was gaining the upper hand in the fight as Johnny was weakened from the fall and could hardly fight. One of the ninjas that had been knocked out earlier came to and observed his leader fighting. He waited until they fought their way over where he was and grabbed Johnny from behind and slung him on the ground. “He is at your mercy, master!” the ninja exclaimed. “FINISH HIM!” Ermac raised his daggers high into the air and was about to strike when he heard a woman scream, “No!” He turned around and yelled, “What the hell?” as a large fireball engulfed him. He screamed in agony as Johnny flipped his sword off the ground with his foot, caught it, and stabbed the red ninja who held him.

As Ermac burned, Sonya approached Johnny. There were no words passed between them just a long, passionate kiss. “Next time, let me finish him,” Johnny said jokingly. “It damages my manhood when you do things like that.” “Oh, you!” Sonya said as she pushed him down. Noob Saibot banged his oil shield across Sub-Zero’s head and swept him to the ground. He then picked him up off the ground, landed two punches to the ice ninja’s chest and face, and slammed him to the ground again. Sub-Zero gasped for breath as the black ninja stood over him. Suddenly, a sign of hope caught his eye. He did a karate leap off the ground and flipped over to a torch hanging on the wall. He then swung away at the black ninja, eventually backing him up against the window. He smiled, threw the torch away, and grabbed the black ninja by the throat. With all his strength, he ripped Noob Saibot’s head from his body and kicked the body out the window. As he held up the head, he noticed it was dripping with oil. He said aloud, “Hmph! Just like that bastard to bleed oil!”

Kabal tried a pop kick on Reiko, who countered by grabbing the masked loner by the leg, swung him 360°, and threw him into the wall. Kabal stood on one knee and pressed a small button within his mask but nothing happened. “That’s funny,” Kabal thought to himself. “Now you shall be purified by death!” Reiko shouted. He ran towards the masked loner screaming. Kabal again pressed the button but still nothing happened. He then pressed the same button repeatedly. As Reiko closed in, the loner thought to himself, “Now I’m getting ready to get upset!” He raised his fist high into the air and punched down hard on the button. This time, Kabal smiled as he heard machinery come to life. Reiko lunged forward and a bright pink fireball shot from Kabal’s mask and hit the general in his chest. The blast knocked Reiko back into the altar table, thus breaking his back. Kabal stood up and said aloud, “Whew! That was close.”

Quan Chi and Liu Kang sword/club fought from rock to rock. Neither one gave up, for they were both hell-bent on destroying each other. Once they jumped onto one last rock, Quan Chi knocked Liu down with a side roundhouse kick to the midsection. He then attempted to stab Liu with his spiked club but was thwarted by a push kick from the warrior. The hit knocked Quan Chi to the ground, which caused his club to drop off the rock. “Damn!” he said angrily as he turned around to face Liu Kang, flaming sword in hand. “Well, you have me, Liu Kang,” Quan Chi said solemnly. “Go ahead and finish it, pal. There’s no stopping you.” “No,” Liu Kang said sternly. “As angry as I am, I cannot take it out on you. There is no honor in killing in anger. I hereby grant you Mercy.” “How did I know you were going to say that?” Quan Chi asked evilly. He then shot a green Soul blast from both hands. The blast hit Liu Kang in the chest and he writhed in pain as he felt his soul leaving his body.

“I think I can honestly say I got you now!” Quan Chi exclaimed as he rose to his feet. As Liu Kang screamed in agony, Quan Chi began laughing maniacally. Liu Kang saw his life flash before his eyes and then heard Chan say, “You’re gonna let this guy make you give all that up?” “Hell…no!” Liu Kang shouted as he flipped out of the beam of the Soul blast. He picked up his flaming sword and launched it at the sorcerer. The sword connected with Quan Chi’s chest. The sorcerer began to bleed at the mouth as Liu Kang ran to him and held him close. “I think I changed my mind,” Liu said. Flame flew out of Liu Kang’s eyes and engulfed his body and Quan Chi’s as well. He walked away from the burning sorcerer still covered in flame. He snatched his flaming sword from the sorcerer’s body and somersault kicked him off the rock and into the abyss below. The flame extinguished itself and Liu whispered, “Fatality! Thanks, Chan!” and jumped into a nearby portal.

Shao Kahn swung his Soulhammer at his father’s arm and bruised it. Shinook held the scepter in the bruised arm and slapped his son away with the good arm. Lord Rayden went for and connected with a jump kick. Shinook was pushed back to the end of the balcony. He regained his posture and grabbed Rayden by his throat and launched him to the wall by the window. He shook the scepter and a blade popped out at its head. He then turned to Shao Kahn and said defiantly, “YOU WILL DIE!” The father and the son then engaged in more Weapons Kombat. Shinook then began rowing the scepter like an oar with both arms thus, confusing the exhausted Shao Kahn. Shinook rowed his scepter until he succeeded in knocking Kahn’s Soulhammer out of his arms and into the air. He then penetrated Kahn’s heart with the scepter blade. Lord Rayden, who had arose and witnessed this, shouted “NO!” in great agony.

As Kahn fell to the ground, Rayden caught him in his arms. “You’re OK,” Rayden said desperately. “Really, you are!” “I’m afraid it’s much too late for me my dear brother,” Kahn said. “Of course it seems only fitting that I die the way I lived, by violence. Remember this: Though I was once against you, I never truly lost respect for you. You and your chosen warriors are the greatest and most challenging fighters I ever had the honor of doing battle with. I am proud to have been defeated by such great people and I am proud to have been your brother. Goodbye.” The former Emperor of the Outworld died in his brother’s arms. Tears ran from Rayden’s eyes as he let out a long, agonizing groan. He looked at Shinook and lightning flashed deadly in his eyes. He laid Kahn on the ground and charged at his father with vengeance. He knocked the scepter out of Shinook’s hands with his mallet. He punched his father three times in the face and head butted him.

Shinook retaliated by using the balcony rails as leverage and kicking his son down and jumping down to the lower balcony to retrieve the scepter. Rayden still enraged leaped off the balcony after him. As Shinook picked up the scepter, Rayden landed both of his feet in his back. The two rumbled on the ground for a brief moment before Shinook push kicked his son off of him. Shinook picked the scepter back up and Rayden redrew his mallet. Both men swung for all they were worth. They fought to the end of the balcony and Shinook tried to knock Rayden off but was head butted again instead. They fought their way inside the room the balcony faced. It was a dungeon of sorts, consisting of a long boardwalk, demonic structures, and a pit of fire. Shinook managed to high kick his son down on the boardwalk and lunged at him the scepter blade, aiming for his heart. Rayden countered with his mallet and pushed his father away long enough to rise to his feet. Rayden swung the mallet and brought it against his father’s scepter. Both father and son looked into each other’s eyes with their teeth gritting and hate as well as anger.

“Realize your defeat, son!” Shinook exclaimed. “I cannot believe you are still trying to win!” “I must win!” Rayden said sternly. “I must win to end this damned evil once and for all!” Using the mallet, he pushed his father away, who said, “That was indeed pathetic!” “Maybe,” Rayden agreed with a smile on his lips. “But this won’t be!” He swung the top of the mallet down hard on the boardwalk and propelled himself towards his father and landed a chin kick that knocked him dizzy. He then karate chopped the scepter out of his father’s hands and into his own. Lord Rayden wasted no time stabbing his father in the heart. Rayden backed away as his father said, “Aren’t we supposed to hear someone say, FINISH HIM?” “Not anymore,” Rayden answered. “All I’m gonna say now is: This one’s for you, Shao Kahn!” He ran and performed a Shadow Rising Uppercut on his father, snatched the scepter from his body, and watched him fall into the pit of fire beneath them.

Shinook roared and screamed in pain as the flames engulfed him. Lord Rayden watched as the flames finally disintegrated. He rubbed the scepter against his forehead, sighed and then said, “My God, It’s finally over.” He then left the Pit room and joined his fighters on the outside of the castle. “To Earth realm at once!” he ordered. “We have ten minutes until the millennium. Once they made it back to the destroyed temple, Rayden placed the Scepter of Gon Gou Lye in the middle of the Kommand Center floor. His fighters gathered around in a circle as he shot a red lightning bolt at the scepter and severed its top. The same red beam that had come from it before reappeared and illuminated the entire room. When the beam diminished, Rayden and the chosen mortals were shocked to see the Elders’ lying on the ground as if dead. “NO!” Kitana yelled. “W-What time is it?” Johnny asked upset. “It is five minutes after midnight,” Nightwolf informed sadly. “We missed it by five damn minutes!”

“I ain’t accepting that!” Jax exclaimed. “We come this far, y’all! I know we not gon give up now!” Jax looked at his teammates disgusted as they all held their heads down in shame. Lord Rayden looked around and then before a tear could run down his cheek he said, “The powers of the Lagronites helped us overcome Shinook and his adversaries, dammit! And by God, they’re gonna help us bring the Elders back! Everyone hold hands and shut your eyes!” The Defenders did as their leader instructed and he then said, “Now focus your Lagronitic abilities into their bodies.” A whooshing sound could be heard as the same animal representations that had consumed their bodies before reappeared. Small, star-like energy balls began to fly around in the ceiling above them. The Defenders and their leader held their hands up higher and the animal representations began to float around them faster and faster.

The small energy balls flooded the temple, restoring every weapon, vehicle, and other piece of technology to its original splendor. The animal representations flew around as the Kommand center was restored and afterward, combined into a “cloud” of energy and consumed the bodies of the Elders. The Earth realm warriors opened their eyes as the Elders came back to life. The animals returned to their designated humans and the energy balls disappeared. “Hello, my warriors,” Earth said. The Defenders all cheered for joy as the Elders ascended before them. “What did you all learn from this experience?” Love asked. “I learned that the power of the beast can overcome all!” Nightwolf said. “The lesson I was taught was that never send a man to do a woman’s job!” Sonya said looking at Johnny mischievously. Kabal and Stryker then said together, “We learned that two kicking ass is better than one kicking ass!” “I came to the realization that your opponent, whether good or evil, will try to dazzle you with an assortment of moves and tricks,’ Liu Kang said. “The trick is to stay alert and beat them at their own game.”

“You took mine!” Sub-Zero and Kitana said at the same time. They then looked at each other and asked, “What do you mean yours? I-I thought of it first?” Jax laughed and then said, “Well, you have to count on your teammates to do their jobs regardless of the situation.” “And you, Lord Rayden?” Wind and Water asked. Lord Rayden smiled at the Elders as well as his friends and said, “The best weapons you can use to defeat any adversary is love, honor, determination, and a few Lagronite extras!” They all burst into laughter and continued their cheers as Johnny said, “What are we waiting for? It’s the millennium! Celebration time!” He reached under the Kommand Center mega computer table and pulled out a radio. He turned it on and Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration” played. The others all joined Johnny in singing, dancing, and partying the night away. The next morning the chosen warriors all gathered in the Relay Room.

They were laughing and talking when Liu Kang asked, “Has anybody seen that Thunder god. I went by his room and he wasn’t there.” “I saw him earlier,” Sub-Zero informed. “He told me to tell you all not to be worried. He had to go somewhere and take care of something.” They all continued their conversation as the Elders joined them. Far away on Lagron, the natives were just waking up to a new day. They got out of their beds, said their daily prayers to their gods, and started out for work and other endeavors they had planned. At the palace, mornings were always a big thing because the queen had a breakfast feast for herself and the other heads of state followed by a ceremony to pay homage to their gods for allowing them all to see another day. Queen J’Zonia, however, was still resting in her grand bedroom. She turned over and heard a voice say, “Good morning, Queen J’Zonia.”

She awoke abruptly and sat up in her bed. She placed her hand on a dagger resting on her nightstand. “Who’s there?” she asked almost terrified. “I’m not here to harm you,” said a voice from her balcony window. The person opened the window and let himself in. “Well, what are you doing here?” Queen J’Zonia asked. “Our realm and or gods are safe once again,” Lord Rayden said. “And it’s all thanks to you.” “It was no trouble, Lord Rayden,” Queen J’Zonia replied as she got out of bed and put on a gown. “Your realm was headed for certain disaster. I merely gave you a tool you needed to save it. How you used it was what saved your realm.” “The point is you gave it to us,” Lord Rayden corrected. “If you had not been generous enough to give it to us, we would have certainly died. I’d like to thank you for what you did for us in my own way.”

“How?” Queen J’Zonia asked. The Thunder god approached the ruler of Lagron and held her close. “Well,” Lord Rayden answered. He bought her face next to his and kissed her briefly. After the kiss Queen J’Zonia said, “So I see.” The pair smiled at each other and then Rayden looked out the window and said, “Thanks, big brother.” He was surprised to see a cloud in the Lagronitic sky shaped in the form of his brother’s face. He looked on and noticed that there was a smile on its lips. The Thunder god simply smiled, embraced the Queen, and kissed her again.
