| Legends of the Lin Kuei |
| Chapter 05: New beginnings |
By: Shaun Penney |
A lot had happened to such short notice to the Lin Kuei assassin Subzero. Already he had fought and defeated Sektor, the last of his enemies of the now disbanded Lin Kuei, and now the Thunder God Raiden had told him that his elder brother Subzero wa still alive and at the fury of his arch nemesis Scorpion. And to top it all off, a scorceror named Quan Chi was trying to unlock an elder God to the realm of Earth to once more engage a war that had been eased for eons.
Subzero didn't normally feel a burden riding against him, but he knew, Raiden would not have told him any of this, if he didn't think it would benefit Earth Realm for the whole. Subzero kept fast and flew in during the rest of the night. He made it to the city of Jui Jsinn by dawn and found an old friend still in his place that he was in before. Whenever Subzero needed to barter a new supply of weapons best suited for his assassin techniques, he called upon one that could get him such things, his name was Kensu. Subzero went into his place and found him meddling on a paper and ink feather making copies of work to his old files.
"Greetings Kensu" said Subzero as he took his mask off. Kensu smiled but kept his face to his notes.
"You're movement is as pure quiet as ever my friend Subzero. I trust you have come for another trade" said Kensu. He knew never to look at the cold warrior. To do so would mean certain death to set eyes on a Lin Kuei warrior even if he was...a friend.
Subzero looked around and patted his hands together. He was wearing his glazed gauntlets that wrapped around his forearms with the rest of his combat suit.
"Not this time Kensu, I have other business in which I am need of." said Subzero. Kensu continued to right as he dotted another blot on his fine feather point.
"Oh...What can I do for you then?" asked Kensu. Subzero set a gold coin next to Kensu's side. It ws rich and pure, just by the sound it made as it hit the oak on the table was good enough for Kensu.
"I seek information, I understand that you still deal in trade with the Ninja clans near the borders" said Subzero. Kensu stopped writing his notes as he looked down at his side.
"You wish to find Scorpion" said Kensu. He knew of the age old battle between the ninja clans and the Lin Kuei, especially of the one between Scorpion and Subzero.
"Yes I do, I need to know where he's gone, and where he's been since the end of the second tournament" said Subzero. Kensu sighed.
"Chasing specters again Subzero? It doesn't fit, I heard what happened to your Lin Kuei, you must feel colder then ever" said Kensu. Subzero took a step away from him.
"I've accepted my clan's fate, but it is not my own. I need to know where he is Kensu, I have to find him as soon as possible." said Subzero. Kensu looked a the gold piece. he studied it's old ridges, and it's personal wealth. He would have kept with his questions about why he would go after the ghost that walks, but it was not his place.
"Very well. Give me by tommorow night, and I will have your answers for you" said Kensu as he began to write again. Subzero opened the door and put his mask back on.
"Thank you Kensu, I shall return" he said and vanished back outside again. Kensu kept to his notes, he knew the Lin Kuei warrior was gone and did not need to look. Kensu smiled in his own selfless way. He had not heard from Subzero in almost a year. Since he had been running from the Cybers, there was no contact between the two. Kensu always thought that Subzero had too much a pure heart to be a Lin Kuei killer. Much like his brother was. Still, it was good to hear from him again, Kensu thought. He continued to work his notes for the morning. He would have to spend the rest of this one and the next to find some answers...
