| Chapter 07: Fading memory |
By: Shaun Penney |
Subzero went into a semi meditative state as he sat down observing his half empty glass on the table. In his mind though, he saw so much more. There was a beautiful valley covering the tops and bottoms of mountain sides. Deep where no man outside would find there way. There beneath it all lied the Lin Kuei compound. The lair of all the Lin Kuei warriors.
There were many. All training on different levels of mind, body, and soul. Everyday, warriors of the Lin Kuei died for what they believed in. They were silent assassins, skilled fighters, and above all, they had abilities most mortal men only dream of. Deep within the elements of the earth lied it's many secrets that the Lin Kuei have learn to unlock. The masters instill such powers into their the ones who most soley deserve to learn such abilities, and continue the legacy.
The elder brother Subzero was the best there was. Since the time that he and his younger brother were taken, he had become what the Lin Kuei had envisioned. perfect loyal powerful warrior. He and his younger brother trained together for many years. Always by eachother's side, yet always in competition. Thier heavy training became a fued to see who was the better. Finally one day, a test was made to be passed. The two brothers were sent to face eachother...in Mortal Kombat.
They faced eachother in a sand filled arena in the center of the Lin Kuei compound. They spoke no words, only raised their fists. When they heard the gong, they were no longer brothers. Only enemies to eachother. The intensity and speed was pheonominal to say the least. The grandmasters had never seen so much energy to two individuals before. It seemed that they had chosen wisely. Their match had gone on for a while before the younger finally nailed the first blow. As he caused first blood upon his elder brother he began to realize for the first time, that his grandmasters had sent one of them to death. It was just a question of which of the two was stronger. The younger brother did not want his brother's death no matter how high the fued was between the two. He lowered his fists and turned away. The elder brother was confused, but agonized at the same time. He demanded that his younger brother finish the battle. But the younger one would not yeild. Finally the elder brother Subzero jumped over and with an angered hand, he slashed the younger Subzero over his face. The younger Subzero held his face and for the first time ignited his fury of the cold within him. He shot out his ice blasts blindly as they hit unlooking Lin Kuei, killing them. The match was ordered stopped. The younger brother fought his pain away, for if he was deemed injured, he would surely be put to death. The elder Subzero faced away and never once looked at his brother. He felt dishonored, but remained the best the Lin Kuei had. The younger brother continued on, his face healing quickly.
After the first tournament, when he heard of his brother's death. He felt it was his job to finish what he started. After fighting Scorpion for the first time and showing Scorpion that he was the younger brother of Subzero, Subzero dawned a mark on his face so he would forever remember what his brother did to him. But in that respect, Subzero forgave his brother and let his spirit rest in peace...
Subzero awoke from his state as he looked out into the town. His moderate dream had all but made him weary, but he kept his mind clear. He touched his face and removed himself from the outside tavern. Again he walked on, remembering the instances that had happened in his past. If his brother was still alive, he had to find him...
